Planets automatically launching fighters and sending them to a local location.

Submitted by _Kraft on Thu, 2008-05-29 09:42. Space Empires V General

I've been trying to figure out if this is possible w/o success.

Ex. Can you set a planet to create fighters and automatically launch them (this would be a big help alone) and send them to a local location?

In larger games, this functionality would remove a significant part of the tedious work. Please let me know if this is even possible. If not, it would be a great feature to have.

I don't remember where but there's a function that tells a planet to automatically route stuff to a certain location. Maybe you might have accidentally turned it on?

You could do that with carriers on repeat orders - less efficient of course...

You can't do this with fighters, but you can auto-route ships using waypoints and adjusting your queue settings.

In simultaneous games, you can auto-launch units, but still not auto-route them to a destination.

Captain Kwok, you can automatically create ships on a planet and have them automatically move to waypoints? I would love to know how.

So the auto launch of units only works in a simultaneous game... what is the difference between simultaneous and turn based if I'm a single player on a single machine? I appreciate all the help.

To set a waypoint, use the CTRL + # (# = 1-9) at the location where you want the waypoint to be. In queue settings, scroll down and you can select a waypoint of your choice to send new ships to.

In simultaneous, the repeat orders button can be toggled for orders like launch X units or launch all units. I seem to recall some mechanics issue why it doesn't work in sequential mode, but can't elaborate any further... I haven't really messed around that much with 'batch orders' in sequential.

Thanks Captain Kwok. I'll try this tonight. Smiling

For alternative, you could make a freighter and set it to gather the fighters to oone location, and put it on repeat orders. This is not as good, but saves supply and does make your life a bit easier.

Looks like I'll have to have a freighter collect up fighters per system. It would be nice to have them auto directed.

I figured out how I can get my fighters to auto-launch in turn base mode. It's tricky but appears to work. Just have a ship in orbit of the planet and select both "the planet" and "the ship" in orbit and order them to both a space. The planet won't move of coarse (only the ship will), but it sets the planet right-click mouse options to be the same as a ship with "order" options listed. For programmers out there, it looks like they both inherit from the same base class, and thus the functionality. So now you can set the orders to launch units automatically on the planet. I'm sill working out the update-queues of fighters in this situation. This could eliminate the waste of "no storage available" on the planet for items that can be launched into orbit.

Ok to add to the above comment, you must make sure you remove the move planet to orders from the planet order list (otherwise it will fail). So with this all fighters produced on the planet will automatically be launched into orbit. This is killer!
