Fighters throwing away supply and ordance for no reason |
I have determined, in both stock and balanced mod, that fighters will empty out their supply and ordnance storage and that neither the supply or ordnance will end up in the storage of the carrier or planet they recovered to.
Then these empty fighters will fill their storage units as they are launched again, at least as long as the carrier or planet has supply or ordnance. Then, after having done nothing but being recovered, they will loose all the supply and ordnance they just launched with.
I think that may have been what was causing my troop transports to loose all their supply once I started mixing fighters in with my troops. Though, the symptoms were different. The transport would loose all its supply the turn following combat. I was not using any weapons on the troops or fighters that required ordnance so I thought it was a supply glitch on the troop recovery.
I guess it wouldn't be as wasteful if I quit putting storage units on the fighters but then they would only get about 5 shots from their weapons requiring ordnance and a few more form supply only weapons. The launch/recovery process wouldn't be as wasteful.
And what's the deal with fighters only getting to launch once a month now? Is that a workaround to their being too powerful (less so in BM)? I took a single carrier into battle to toast a colony and tried to do another nearby colony but the fighters weren't allowed to launch. That's just plain lame.
Add to that their not being able to attack planets without being carried to the planet by a carrier or transport. They just hang around outside the combat area, being completely inaccessable. So they have to be launched into battle and then can only be launched once. These workarounds to taming fighters are nuts. Just downgrade fighter size or weapon power if they are too powerful.
Re: Fighters throwing away supply and ordance for no reason
I am in a 1.66/BM 1.13 game we went with precidely to avoid the new 1.71 fighter bug. We are also on slow tech progression so in my war with 2 empires almost fram the start we use fighters a lot, much more than I've had any reason to in the past. I haven't looked into it in depth but I have noticed that groups of fighters in secondary systems can land on a planet to refuel. Are you saying that without a fuel depot I am slowly draining a set amount of fuel from my colony and that it will run out? Ironically, there is a bug or something in the game that dumps fighters in a sector if their carrier is destroyed. It's been interesting that we send ships through WP into certain death just so they will drop 40-50 fighters.

Re: Fighters throwing away supply and ordance for no reason
Previously when fighters were launched and recovered, there movement points were restored, so it was possible to jump across entire systems etc. The v1.71 patch was suppose to be fix this, but instead restricted fighters to 1 launch per turn, rather than keeping track of their movement points. Hoping for a proper fix in the next patch.
I've never had a problem with giving a fighter group orders to attack a planet.
