New Feature Request: A Movable Typing Cursor

Hi! I'm just writing to request a new feature.

When you're typing in-game (like when writing an empire description, or a political message), it would be really neat to be able to go back and edit already written text without having to delete everything I've already written. A cursor that could be moved, like in a word processing program, or these forums, would facilitate this. As it is, the cursor can only ever be at the end of the text, which means to go back, you have to delete text. Which is a little annoying, for the long-winded of us.

Anyway, I hope this doesn't come off as a jerkish sort of demand. Just thought, you know, I'd put it out there. I know the game designer (one man, ladies and gentleman) is a busy guy.

Thanks!

I would realy like that! Especially since my native language is not english and therefore some of my RP multiplayer massages take ages to write and rewrite (for you can not send "real" diplomatic massages with this obviously faults...). Furthermore (as there are moveable cursors in the game, for example when you name your ships,...) it should (hopefully) not be this complicated to change it.

Yeah I'm OCD, but I also like to write detailed descriptions when I make a race for PBW. It annoys me no end to finish and find I mispelled soemthing at the top. I have to delete it all and rewrite the whole thing.

Yeah, I'd even settle for some copy/past function that would allow you to past text you typed in an external editor if need be.

you can do that with empire descriptions when creating it - use "load text". It's one line for each of the three text fields.

As long as it remains as clunky as it is today, I'll pass. Last time I checked there's no way to browse for the text source, so the user is left without a clue. The manual is equally inadequate for performing this kind of actions.

IIRC you have to put it in the Saved Empires folder.

This is one of my biggest frustrations in SEV, the inconsistencies in the behavior of the interface. In some text fields, you can only move the cursor by backspacing; in others, the arrow keys work, and I've found at least one where clicking the mouse will move the cursor to the pointer. Many text fields don't register the first keystroke.

Most list items can be selected by clicking anywhere on the horizonal line of the header that highlights when the item is selected, except for the construction screen, where you have to click within the indicator button.

If you're interested in getting this behavior straighten out, then make sure you send a short e-mail to Malfador. If you note any specific places where you certain issues occur (such as missing first keystroke, can't place cursor) then mention those areas. I'm hoping to get full SE4 style text boxes that allowed cut/paste operations as well as cursor placement etc.
