Trouble choosing which mod

I am having trouble choosing which mod to get behind for several reasons.

First is knowing which mods are still active, and if active, how active.

The second is understanding what each mod is trying to achieve.

I hope that this thread will hopefully allow me and others to better know the current SE V mods. I hope to discuss the pro’s and con’s of each mod so that I and other’s can better decide which mod most suits our playing style.

I am an old 4x from the Atari ST days (1987-1990 odd) and love the building of an empire.

I have also never played the game unmoded and only started playing a few weeks ago.

While the mods have a great list of what has been done they have no context as to what is the larger picture and design decisions. I of course could be just looking in all the wrong places, so feel free to tell me where to go!! LOL

Another concern for me is the AI, I am for the most part a single player kind of guy. So the AI is very important from that perspective. However I do like a good multiplayer game, as I do with Combat Mission CMAK. Though for a SE V multiplayer game to have any value I would still want competent AI to add an uncertainty into the mix especially if some of the features I would like to see were in via mods.

Features like were the player starts with just the absolute minimum in space flight and for the most part has to research most all things.

The other is regards to research, which I have learned that ekolis has gone someway to address with the Research Break Through mod. Hopefully they can go further and build upon this great foundation.

The idea being that if at the time that a new technology was loaded the cost could be randomised it would, especially in conjunction with the Research Break Through mod really open up a game.

Apart from the extra randomisation which would require the player to have to weigh up research choices rather than going through the motions and thus making research a bigger part of the game it would give players strengths and weaknesses in fields of research which would hopefully make alliances and espionage for and against more important.

Great work and a big thumbs for ekolis bringing this aspect to the game.

Almost every mod listed there has a link to a home page with more information and discussion about that mod.

hey im writing a new mod now for about the end of may if my bmp image guy gets to work, we r adding to new types of planets, taking out unimportant weapons and adding various bonuses here and everywhere to look for. We hope to add moons and new racial traits. Also some buildings can only be built on certain planets if i get the code right.
