SE5 Patch 1.08 Out |

Here - 17.7MB (http://www.strategyfirst.ca/downloads/patches/se5patch_v108.exe)
It'll be mirrored shortly - many thanks to Julian (SysOp) for the quick linkage while he updates the websites.
Please note: there appears to be initial problems with running this with the steam download.
I don't know how steam is supposed to handle patches, but for now - best treat this as a retail only patch until I get more information.
Edit: Confirmed, Steam has it's own patching process. Valve has the update so it's in their hands - they run to west coast time, so -3 hours - so just suck it up and wait guys
Edit 3, or 4 - I lose track : There will be an updated version of the demo released soon(tm). Note: this is not a promise of release, or a guarantee that it'll come out in a few days, this is a "some guy on the inside told me *wink wink*".
Sigh... in the time it took
Sigh... in the time it took me to register, someone beat me to the post
Sweet.
Now, I really do have the patch. Just so sad I have a job interview tommorow. God hates me.

Why oh why
Isn't it up on Malfador's sight?

because the Malfador site is updated once every blue moon?

Productive delay, eh?
Well it turns out the delay was the 15-20 extra items patched over the weekend for the 1.08 version...
Still going to gripe?

Don't taunt the people Kwok, or they will start throwing rancid feces at you. I've seen 'em do it, I tell you! IT WASN'T THE MONKEYS IN THE MONKEY CAGE, I SWEAR!

Steam users got shafted again
Just got told it doesn't work for Steam edition. I'm so glad I'm Australian now.
Edit: However, I'm sure you Steam users won't have to wait too long before the patch is distributed over Steam. Maybe a few hours or so, but you'll have it today.
Now, I'm going to go play my PATCHED SE5.

I'm really glad the patch is
I'm really glad the patch is out, although I can't honestly say that I saw any ill effects in the current game I'm playing except the inability to 'unmothball' ships ( boy was I glad I found that out before I mothballed a whole fleet of ships!
)
My question is: how will the 1.08 patch affect games saved with version 1.0?
I'm at work right now and can't check this myself.
Will I have to scrap my saved games and start over fresh with 1.08? Or will my saved games update correctly?
Any help on this is welcome please.

Fine
My save game worked fine.

Nice 1.08
What do you know, I've got two in the hand.
The patch is on steam.
The patch is on steam.
Why does it say that it breaks save games when the patch doesnt break non-steam version save games?
Edit : Seems to load 1.0 games fine, maybe they are just covering their asses.

Steam Patch
Sartre approves. Patch also available over Steam.

Thanks!
Thanks, matryx for the post! Been checking back here like a bad dog, now I can see if all the concerns were addressed.
Sincerely,

New demo soon too?
So with a 1.08 patch available for the retail version, will there soon be a 1.0x version of the demo released too? The demo will continually be my guage to determine when I think the retail version will be "good enough" for me to buy.
Edit: Ok, i see the "soon" post above. Sigh. Will wait. Seems like the developers should simply be able to "make" to make their new release and "make demo" to make the new demo immediately, but I guess not.

Demo Pending...
Aaron is working on the new demo at the moment - it's not exactly a cut and dried process like you'd think - so I would guess it should be ready in a few days at the most.

Wonder why there is no MP
Wonder why there is no MP issues resolved in 1.08?

I hope this works.
In my SE5 game, the video, when you customize your own single player game, is acting all funny. Sometimes my customized doesn't even start up properly after hittng the 'begin' button.
Lock up
Just curious if anyone else was getting a complete system freeze that causes the computer to reboot with the latest version. Has occured to me after the game has been running for a little while.
I ordered the game and
I ordered the game and should be with me friday.
But if the game keeps staying unstable, and new patches keep getting realeased, and I have to drop my save games to use the newest stable version, I'm going to be verry pissed.
These games can take a couple of months. And well, I'm not going to drop a couple of months worth of progress because of their mistakes.
The logical solution to your
The logical solution to your predicament would be to not play the game for a few months and fill the time with something outside of SEV, or if you still want to tinker with SEV you could do a shipset.
Then after a few months and patches then start a fresh game.
That would be the logical solution.

Symptoms
Please describe your exact symptoms; if the following looks familiar, PLEASE repost.
You're playing the game, and suddenly the screen goes black, and then the computer reboots. If you go to: windows start menu, right click my computer, advanced tab, startup and recovery, system failure, and automaticly restart is ticked, please UNTICK it -- it is one of microsofts greatest mistakes to make that particular switch tagged by default. You have been getting a "Hidden" blue screen error, see next paragraph.
You get a blue screen error, then the computer reboots. Depending on the text, there are varius options on how to fix it, but the solution for fixing 99% of such errors is to update all drivers. Please, if updating drivers does not fix your problem let us know!
When you update your video drivers remember to disable your antivirus (I'd recommend you pull the plug on your internet so you're 100% sure you can't connect), uninstall the drivers, reboot, (may need to re-disable the antivirus, depending on the maker) then install the new ones, reboot again, and finally re-enable your antivirus (if needed).
If, after doing this you still get simple restarts, please check your power supply. Without detailed specs on your computer its impossible to guess what power supply is needed, but an improper power supply can sometimes produce the symptoms described.
edit:
I'm not 100% certain to come back to this thread, so please feel free to PM me if you desire.

Why cant we be emotional about something... skroef logic
That would be the logical solution.

[Logic]
1) Buy Game
2) Wait Few Months
3) Play Game
[/Logic]
hehe, usually your only supposed to do that to stuff like wine.
When a game is released, it should be matured.
But yes, in the current situation, if I did buy the game, then I have no choice but to wait for it to become stable. Unless it becomes unsupported before it's unstable. (Universal Combat is an example)
I wouldve never wanted that, and my actions didnt at all state that.
Ive waited since the start, when they said they are working on seV.
I waited patiently for a whole year untill they felt the game was ready for release.
Now how on earth is it me wanting it "Bigger, Better and Ten Minutes Ago!"
From what it seems, that was MM's idea to do that. Else they wouldnt have realsed it a couple of days ago saying it's ready for us to play. And they wouldnt have tried to make it bigger and better
I think most people here sitting with a buggy game does not fall in your category. Allot of us waited very patiently, checking the web-site every month or two to see how things are going. We cant be blamed that we have flawed logic or that we are not patient enough. We didnt release it earlier than what it shouldve been. I wouldve been fine with a delay in development.
Freeze symptoms
What I am seeing is the the game will just all the sudden freeze the computer. No BSOD, no blank display. The game just freezes in place, mouse stops responding, and the music stutters. After a few seconds the game will reboot the machine. The first time it happened to me I was in the game setup menu. Other times it has happened I have been playing an actual game.
My system is a brand new box I just built, specs below. Everything is water cooled so heat is not an issue.
AMD X2 5000
eVGA 7950GX2 w/ 91.47 drivers
Asus Crosshair motherrboard
2GB DDR2 800
580w power supply
I'll try it out on another machine to see if I get the same symptoms. That machines specs are below:
AMD Thoroughbred 2400
XFX 6800GT w/ 91.47 drivers
Asus nForce2 motherboard
1.25GB DDR
On a side note, even with that speedy system processing turns takes forever! I would have imagined with a system like this the game would be zipping along...
Turning off auto-reboot
Right click My Computer, click Properties, click Advanced, click Settings under Startup and Recovery, uncheck automatic restart. That'll let you see the error messages at least, because its likely that restart is actually a BSOD and Windows is just auto-rebooting.
SE5 does have some problems with dual-core processors. I haven't noticed the issue since the patch, but turning off one core (start SE5, CTRL-ALT-DELETE, processes tab, right click se5.exe, click Set Affinity, uncheck one CPU) might help.
Bug
My system is very much like Thunder175's first one and I am getting a reboot every time I click the planet list button.
Kind of annoying. My video drivers are up to date.
suggestions?
Patch fixed my reboot issues
I've got to thank MM for releasing the patch.
It has fixed the few reboot and error problems I weas having for the game, not to mention fixing a few odd issues.
In my past experience Aaron at MM will do his best to fix all issues, so if you can repeat the problem, send all details and a save game to him.

If SE IV is any indication,
If SE IV is any indication, MM knows what to do to fix problems. I'm not complaining yet (emphasis on "yet"). Don't let the mega-whiner's get you down, at least not for a month or so. I'm giving MM the benefit of the doubt.
AS to my above problem, I tried turning off one of my CPU's. That did not work. I have the latest video drivers and my XP is fully patched. I'm wondering if the problem is either with AMD AM2 X2 (Dual CPU), or the EVGA 7950 GX2 1 GB video card. I have 2 GB Ram so that shouldn't be an issue. Been playing various other games with little or no problems (CIV4 and Galciv2 to name two).
Should I turn off Auto-reboot and see what the BSD says?

BSOD
[quote=WipperwillShould I turn off Auto-reboot and see what the BSD says?
I'd say yes.
Be aware that "freezing-stutering" then reboot is often a BSOD hidden.
