Stock Empire Design Names

Submitted by Cioden on Wed, 2008-04-23 18:01. Space Empires V General

Hello, I just downloaded the Saved Stock Empire Designs, so I could use the stock empires outside of quick play. Thing is after starting a game I went to select a design name for a ship design and there was none listed. The design name file is listed in the empire set up though. Is there anyway to get the design names that the empires normally use in quick play to work in a set up game?

For the sake of completeness, I will ask if you are sure the design name file is under data\DesignNames?

also, if you are using a mod please try placing it under the data\DesignNames folder in the game type.

it's odd, I am using custom design names in a mod game already yet when I checked while creating an empire I couldn't see the file until I copied it to the mod.

No the design names are located under the Empires folder. For example Eee_AI_DesignNames is one of the file names. I'm also just playing a standard game with no mods. I just saved a race from quick play as well and the design names worked but as soon I edited something about the race and saved it the design names no longer appeared in game. Do I have to copy the design name files and place it under the design name folder under data for whatever empire I'll be using, or want to place in the game if I want to use the design names used in quick play and by the AI's?

I don't think it has to be under an empire's name, just have all the design name files in the one design names folder in data.

Ah ok thanks. So I should been fine copying the those design name files from the empire folder into the design name folder?

Just to clear things up as my description of things probably sounds confusing this is what I'm seeing after loading a saved race.

I don't know of such a thing as specific AI design names, such as the Ukre Tal you have. Rather I am talking of stuff like Animal names, states, or mineral types. For me I have them all under data\design names. I wouldn't imagine it's any different, although I can't be certain. I just checked and such a thing as an AI's design name file is actually in the specific empire folder, but if it's you using it I think putting it under data\design names should allow you access.

In [race]_AI_Main.txt, which design name list the race uses is listed by absolute path, e.g. Eee\Eee_AI_DesignNames.txt . I'll bet the Empire Setup screen is using relative paths instead. So, for any stock race that you want to play as, you'll want to add a copy of the corresponding DesignNames.txt file to the Data\DesignNames folder.

In SEIV, the Eee used the stock Alberta.txt file for design names.

You were right capnq! Thanks! I just put a copy of the file into the folder and now it works! I guess when the race isn't edited it still uses the absolute paths. Just curious, is this an issue all copies of SE5 have? Thanks again everyone for your help!
