Emissive Armour? |
I remember reading a thread about this quite a while ago, but I can't rem what the conclusion was or where it is now. Anyway I was wondering whether emissive armour's 'reduce damage by x ammount each hit' is meant to apply to all hits even if you have only 1 emissive armour and the rest normal and it is only the normal armour being damaged?
Usually i design my ships so that they have just 1 emissive armour in the most right hand armour slot (so that it gets damaged last in combat) and the rest normal armour to minimise cost. However, in recent testing I found that when one of these ships was attacked by fighters with DUC (6 damage at all range) full damage (6 dmg) was done to the ship until the normal armour was gone and then the emissive bonus kicked in once the emissive armour started being damaged.
Is this the way it was intended? This was with 1.71 and BM 1.14a

Re: Emissive Armour?
That is correct. The emissive effect is only applied when an Emissive Armor component is being damaged. It is good general practice to place your emissive armor first prior to regular armor, since armor is currently damaged in the order its placed.
Re: Emissive Armour?
As a general rule of thumb, would it be considered too expensive/unnecessary to use all emissive armour on a ship?

Re: Emissive Armour?
In the Balance Mod, Emissive Armor costs twice as much as regular armor and doesn't offer the same protection until the end of the tech tree. Depending on what your primary opponents are using, you'll typically find a mix of both to be of the most benefit.
Re: Emissive Armour?
Thanks
And presumably, as the first armour fitted is the first armour to take damage, I should fit the emissive armour first?

Re: Emissive Armour?
Emmissive armor only reduces damage that is done to the armor. Apparently that's how it's always worked.
