This happens quite a lot more often than you'd think. In fact, it even happened to Microsoft's Hotmail some time ago. It shouldn't take long to correct, but at the moment the rights to the domain are still locked, so I'm guessing someone of the PBW crew still owns the right and can rather swiftly renew it.
The physical server is probably still alive, but with no name server to point to it that's rather useless
