Point defense Bug

hi all,

I have French Version of SE5, Patched to version 1.66.
I have a big problem very annoying..
It seems im not alone to have it.

So, all defense point dont shoot on Missiles / Torpedoes.

I try many times with different level and no solutions at this time..

So anyone have an idea ? i try to modify some parameters in .txt but no results.

And a subsidiary question.. Patch 1.71 for non UK European Version ? Smiling

I don't have the problem myself, but maybe I can help.
Ok, few guestions, I hope to figure out what is the problem.:

When you say "all point defense don't shoot misiles", do you mean
A) You have tried all different type of point defense weapon, and none of them shoot missiles
B) You have tried all different type of point defense weapons, and some of them shoot missiles, some don't.

Does the point defense fire at fighters, satellites and drones? Is the problem only against seekers?
(for test make a ship design with only PD weapons, and use simulator)

Also, check which tactic you are using for the ship, and what is defined in that tactic as the range to engage seekers/fighters/satellites/drones.

Point Defense can't shoot down torpedoes. Thats their advantage.

Thanks for this First answer.

So, for completing, i tried with all type of point defense weapon ( cannons, flak and other ) No one shoot on missiles / Torpedoes.
Capital missile 1 or 10 Vs Point defense 10 or more, No shoot from point defense.

And new test with satellites and / or fighters.
Point defense seems ok for shooting on satelite.

Finally the problems seems appears only with missiles, no matter what type of defense point it is..

Tested on French Version 1.33, 1.58 and 1.66

This problem not present if i install in English ( with the same CD ).

For me it's a problem with Translation, it's not the only one. ( i found and corrected a little bug for master computer who dont appear because translated "oudinateur" for good word "ordinateur". )

If anyone have an idea, it would be great Smiling

Tested With Capital missile AND torpedoes. No difference, no one shooted by point defense weapoon..

Torpedoes are classed as a seeker. PD shoots at Seekers. I was not aware Torpedoes were exempt to PD targeting. I did a simulation with one ship having only a Quantum Torpedo and the with only a PD. Made sure the PD ship had less engines so Torpedo ship would ketch it. The PD fired on the launched Torpedo. Is that a bug?

no it's not, torpedoes are not immune to PD fire, they are just more resistant to it IIRC

Based on what you told, I think it is a spelling mistake somewhere:

Check the data\components.txt
On the top, it lists possible types.
All missiles/torpedoes should have
"Weapon Type := Seeking" (would that be in french in the french version?),
and all Point defense weapons should have
"Weapon Target Type List := Fighter, Satellite, Seeker, Drone"

I think that is a good place to start checking. If there are spelling errors in here, that would could make it so the PD won't target seekers.

Other files to see about the seeker spelling would be MainStrings.txt (Struct 6 := Seeker) and Strategies.txt
(Target Type 30 Name := Seeker Targeted On Us)

Let us know if this helps. If it won't help, can you copy bomblet missile information (the point defense missile, if it is named differently) from the components.txt, and post it here? That might help.

Oh, and PD does shoot torpedoes, it is not a bug, it is just as it should be.

That's Good.. i found the problem... Your help was Really precious !

So "seeker" in french is "chercheur"..
In mainstrings.txt Struc6 was "autodirecteur" ---> it's not a bad word, just not entered in all others files ( chercheur )

So just settings to struc6 chercheur.

Now all is good...
