How best to automate the defence of a non-colonised system

Submitted by Teddy Bär on Sun, 2008-04-13 06:55. Space Empires V General

In my game I have a nice location that has in place several buffer systems which are perfect for defending any incursion into my empire.

I want to defend these systems, note system as I don't like the practice of parking on way points.

Getting some newly constructed ships to turn up should be easy with the go-to order.

But in the bigger scheme of things how does one go about this besides manually?

For example, I do not seem to be able to tell the AI that I want this system mined and/or have a few satellite's thrown in there, nor does there appear to be a way to say that I want this or that system defended.

Thanks in advance,

Teddy Bär

As far as I know, the AI will only attempt to lay mines/sats etc in a colonized system. If you have no colonies in that system, it won't automatically defend it so you would have to do so manually. Is there not even one moon in that system you could colonize? If so, that is all thats needed.

Why not put some minelayers on repeat orders (load mines from nearest colony, remote launch on the warppoint)

Also good is to send a fleet of SY ships to build some bases.
Make yourself some BSYs which you can put on repeat build, and throw in some giant supply tanks to keep your stuff topped up. (By which I mean a base filled completely with supply/ordnance and maybe some armor to protect against pot shots. Being unarmed the enemy shouldn't shoot at it too much, but they might not have any other targets in range occasionally)

You could even have a SY base which includes cargo bays and a mine layer. Repeat build mines, and launch mines on repeat orders too.
Do one for satellites, and try a fighter base too.

Although that suggestion would be gladly taken up by most it doesn't seem appropriate as a response to the first post given that they said that they wanted to defend the space not the warp points

I am getting the hang of issuing multiple orders, as suggested pick up mines here and drop here.

As noted I am not into gaming the warp point short comings, so I am going to need to mine a lot of the system and set-up Fleets to patrol.

If the series of orders can be ongoing is there a way to get the mine layers to drop to a Ctrl+Number point so that I can just keep moving the number around the system.

Cheers,

Teddy Bär
