Disappearing Supply and Ordnance on fighters |
171 with BM114, full tech game
For simplicity sake I usually use fighters with organic electrical weapons. For some more punch to weapons platforms, I'm trying to use rocket pods, which require ordnance. They were all loaded up when I put them on the carrier but when I took them into planet combat the first time, they had no supply or ordnance.
Okay, I pulled out of combat and had supply ships come in to fill them up but when they are on the carrier they won't accept any ordnance so I move them off the carrier and load them up. This wipes out the supply on the carrier crippling it for the rest of the turn. I fill the carrier up with supply and load the fighter back on.
Nest turn, I go into combat on the planet and they have supply but no ordnance so they can't fight with the rocket pods. This is getting quite frustrating. Yes, the carrier has supply and ordnance storage units. I think it must be a programming glitch. Something is frelled up with the carriers. The fighters I keep on cargo ships for dropping on planets don't lose their ordnance.
Release 5.71 and still fighting major bugs. I guess SE6 will be SE5 with all the major bugs fixed.
Re: Disappearing Supply and Ordnance on fighters
The old issue is fixed, it was a supply/ordnance distribution problem.
For the new one, the carrier losing supply is explainable: Launchbays suffle supplies from host (carrier) to the units. If the units were not having enough supply, they were being filled from the carrier's supply.
So when you put a bunch of supply empty fighter/drones/satellites in the ship, supplies get transferred to fighters. This is what causes the carrier to lose supply and movement. Launching smaller groups, then resupplying the carrier from supply ship before launching more small groups solves the problem, but causes more micromanagement. Just don't let the carrier supply go down to zero and you are good.
I assume that if the fighters are full, they will not lose the supplies when launched into the space, only when sent to planet, is this correct?
You could send a savegame detailing the problems to Aaron. He seems quite quick in fixing problems, if you provide good example file for him so he can see and try things with the problem. Though you might want to make a quick game and check if the same happens in stock too. If stock is problem free, then the problem is in Balance mod and you don't need to bug Aaron but Captain Kwok instead.
Re: Disappearing Supply and Ordnance on fighters
Can you test if this also happens in stock? Since they changed the supply distribution in latest patch, this could be a balance mod issue.

Re: Disappearing Supply and Ordnance on fighters
Apparently, quite a few ppl considering the popularity of Unnamed's Mod.
Re: Disappearing Supply and Ordnance on fighters
Well, it might be in order to check so we can determine if the bug is in game engine, or in the balance mod.
After all, if it turns our to be in the balance mod, then bugging Aaron to fix it is not the most reasonable point now is it?
Re: Disappearing Supply and Ordnance on fighters
I've reported few bugs to Malfador, usually by setting up a savegame where the bug comes apparent with a single turn or action. I put a short description of what the bug was, and how to reproduce it so Aaron could see it for himself. All bugs I reported were fixed within a week. But you have to understand, that the easier it is for them to detect and test with the bug, the easier it is to solve it. That is why you should try to make a savegame so that it is easy and fast to see it.
Re: Disappearing Supply and Ordnance on fighters
One thing I think that the fighters unload there Ordnance and Supplies to the Carrier when there loaded onboard. Did your Carrier have enough supplies and ordnance to fully stock all the fighters once it arrived at the enemy planet?
I find it use full to have 2-3 times the total Supply and Ordnance required for All fighters onboard, when designing my carriers.
Re: Disappearing Supply and Ordnance on fighters
I tried it myself in 1.71, but could only replicate the problem if the fighters were missing supply when loaded into the carrier. If they were full when loaded, then launching was no problem. But if they were not full when loaded, they drained the ship off supply and ordnance on launch.
If you have a savegame where you are able to get the fully loaded fighters into the carrier and and then send the carrier in the battle to demonstrate this, I think you should E-mail it to malfador. If you can give them a good example file, I think they would fix it, but I'm a bit sceptical since I didn't manage to replicate the bug myself.

Re: Disappearing Supply and Ordnance on fighters
So did he fix the problem in space then? last time (v1.58) I played the ordnance on fighters in space or launched would be a kind of lotto, some would have half their ordnance, those were the useful ones and the rest would have some other random fraction less than that.
Also there were certain weapons that did not work on the planet surface, those purple ones. I beat one AI (in BM) because all their tanks had the purple weapon.
Also ships losing movement because their supply accidentally goes to zero during player un/loading is a bug I want fixed as well... please
Space Empires development is like this. Quite a big task for one guy.
