Being able to just colonise planets with incompatible atmosphere

Submitted by Teddy Bär on Mon, 2008-03-31 04:54. Space Empires V General

Do any of the mods make the ability to colonise planets with incompatible atmosphere….

A. A research item that takes a long time to attain
B. A more expensive proposition
C. A very low population amount

With it being so easy to able to colonise any planet made of say rock on the cheap and immediately takes away a lot of the critical exploration and the luck of the draw to build a successful empire.

i think none of the current mods are doing anything like that.

that colonies are domed, so much less space for facilities.
so it´s not as good as colonising planets with compatible atmosphere.
i think the population is also growing slower.

so they have already some disadvantages instead of compatible planets.
one thing you can do if it realy annoys you is to turn the ability of colonizing
incompatible planets of, you can do that in the game setup for a new game.

It would be a neat idea though, to make domed colonies a research item.

So the three lvl 1 colony techs enable you to colonize your own atmosphere types, while
the environment creation tech enables you to build domed colonies .. asteroid habitats,
habitable space stations and all those other gimicks which are debated here.
it could fit in the planetary utilisation tree too Smiling

You cannot restrict colonization modules or the actual act based on atmosphere directly.

The only way to do that would be to create separate planet types for each atmosphere (instead of just rock, you would have rock oxygen, rock hydrogen, etc.), and have a huge matrix of colony modules and techs to cover it.

this topic makes me wonder if you could add a sort of "super colonizer" to the game that automatically adjusts the atmosphere to your liking.

my god, such a massive matrix of colonising tech would be so obscene... -adds to list of ideas for my possible future mod-

a super colonizer could be good, but it'd have to be so insanly far up the tech tree's just to keep realistic ppl like me happy Sticking out tongue

I would imagine so. It'd definately give people a reason to research colonization tech.

With SE5 1.71, you should be able to set the max population for domed planets to something ridiculously low, and then require "habitat facilities" to be built to increase it. I believe Suicide Junkie is doing something similar in Gritty Galaxy Mod. However, he found that there appears to be a bug with dropping population on planets - any bonus population capacity from facilities is treated as millions of people in most places, but as kT in the drop cargo dialog! Sorry, we beta testers should have been more careful before letting Malfador release that patch... Sad
