Implement freighters to move core goods around your empire?

Sadly there is no requirement for or as far as I can see, a way to implement freighters to move core goods around your empire. Instead it just instantly appears in the bank to be used any and everywhere.

I am presuming, having only to date played the demo whilst I try and find a copy (discontinued in Oz), that in the standard game that your empire does not need to be connected.

That is, if I have a colony that is separated from my main colonies by another race, especially one that I am at war with, I will still get the resources from that colony.

I am not looking to micromanage freighters, I would see that they would be either handled directly by the AI and/or semi scripted from a pool. But imagine having to keep your supply lines open and being able to attack my enemies and he your supply lines to cripple an empire. Or even being constrained in your expansion due to raw good supply issues.

If the need of freighters to supply your empire cannot be implemented via a mod, is there a game play style that would simulate this etc

the need is there in the form of a Space Port which controls all the distribution of resources, you dont see any ships to do with that side of thing, but races need the space port, unless your race has the Natural Merchants racial trait, where you dont need the space port.

Space ports are definitely the weak link

In resource supply. If you can kill off your opponents space ports, you strangle his production from that system. And interestingly, even if the system itself has enough supplies to build stuff, it will sometimes be the starved system. Kind of like your supplies can't get out so they can't get in also?

Natural Merchants are a lot harder to beat using this method as they don't need space ports to supply their empire. These have to die by killing resource generating planets. I think radioactives is the easiest to disrupt in the later game stages when your opponent uses higher technologies which rely more (not totally but more) heavily on radioactives to build them.

But basically, once you build a space port, your resource freighters can then navigate to and from this system to the home system. (I know, I know, none of this is the same as sitting on a vital warp point and blasting defenseless freighters to smithereens as they come through. Eye-wink)
