Tactical Combat

Submitted by dan3260 on Sat, 2008-03-29 15:51. Space Empires V Multiplayer

Is it at all possible to play a multiplayer game with tactical combat?
I have read that some people say hamachi is good for multiplayer, so will it allow Tactical combat? or will it be exactly the same as a TCP/IP connection?
P.S.
I know of PBW, the idea holds absolutely no appeal to me at all.

Cheers, Dan.

If PBW does not allow tactical combat can you at least view a replay to view the combat and check out the opposing ships?

You get combat replay on PBW, but afaik there's no option to have tactical combat. Makes sense with simultaneous processing.

It is not possible, but changeing the strategies so your ships do what you want in combat is in my oppinion even a better challange.

Depends on which type of multiplayer.

In PBW, PBEM, and the built-in TCP/IP, no.

Hotseat? YES!
Mind you, Hotseat only works if you actually have another player in your house, and don't mind waiting several dozen minutes as they play their turn.
Allso, in Hotseat, it's rather like the combat simulator, orders can be issued to any human controlled empire, so you'll probably make much use of the timed stop function.

Cheers for the answers.
Lord Aries, can hotseat be played over a LAN or only on the same pc?
Personally I find the space combat to be an integral part of the game, otherwise it might as well be Galciv 2 style which is also rendered in full 3d, but you have no control over it.

The space combat is an integral part of the game and you do have quite a lot of control over it: by designing your doctrines. I find it much more interestning than simple tactical micromanaging.

I never thought to modify the strategies. :lightbulb:

Personally, I feel that this is in no way a substitute for real tactical combat against a human opponent.
But each unto his own I suppose.
I am at least grateful that we have an option to play multiplayer even if there is no tactical combat.

I also prefer tactical. It's good to be able to direct your own fire and movement to take advantage of the AI. This was even more true in SE4. Smiling
