IN THE BEGINNING...
The young planets began as a twinkle in the Nebula's eye, along with the asteroids, meteors, comets -through the tendency of matter to clump together, ever more until finally there were substantial bodies, the planets and their moons, sweeping up all left-overs in their orbits. During this era, approximately one billion years long, the newly-borning planets were pummeled mercilessly by these left-overs. This was the so-called "Hadean Period", a "hell-ish" time indeed, when the planets surfaces were periodically broiled, flash-fried. Incoming asteroids of sufficient size would vaporize themselves and where they impacted, would turn into a seering plasma that would tsusami around the planet.
This made it a little hard, one would think, for life to get a toehold on any young planet's surface...but it did.

2401.6 TakTak space port, Can-Tak system.
Narvu had said goodbye to his parents several hours ago, but the queue was moving slow. If he'd thought it would take so long just to get on the ship, he would have brought something to eat. He eyed the couple next to him who had had the forethought to bring sandwiches. This did not bode well for his new life on a frontier world, but it wasn't all his own idea to get on a colony ship and make his fortune on a virgin planet. His Father had been quite pushy about it all, especially after his school grades had arrived. Being realistic, he couldn't blame him either, there were his 6 younger brothers to feed and being a dock worker wasn't badly paid...just not enough for such a big family.
The queue shuffled forward a little and he made eye contact again with the Rav he'd been staring at before. A long second passed before she looked away, this time. Progress he thought. At least there would be something to keep him busy on the ship. Take his mind off the dangers of space travel. Over the last few months there had been stories of an alien empire that had been attacking Nilith ships. He'd heard the name Ur-Quan a few times, but he wasn't sure...maybe he should have tried harder at school like his parent had always told him to. He wouldn't be in this queue if he had, thats for sure.
Too late now though...Anyway this was not like it was the first ever colony ship built. Many had been sent off to new worlds and so far nothing serious had happened. Except for the freak virus out break on Vox-ni III. He would say a prayer to Tak before take off...just to make sure nothing like that happened.
The queue moved forwards and the Rav bent to pick up her bag and once she had straightened up, she gave him a little smile.
Maybe this new world would be alright after all.

Stardate 2401.8 - The star ship Harmony
Officer Benny was resting quietly in his seat as the civilian transport ship prepared to enter the warp point. Thinking about the past month he had to admit that he had been completely overwhelmed by his experiences. He had been on a secret mission accompanying puppetan settlers to a world in the Terran Dominion. He was to ensure that the settlers were well treated and not enslaved by agents of The Hand. He had been able to conduct a thorough search of the world and discovered that there was no trace of The Hand anywhere. The human population of the world had treated him and his fellow puppetan with great courtesy and respect.
Puppetan engineers had worked closely with their human counterparts to prepare the world for the puppetan colonists. The human domes had been dismantled one by one all except for one that would stand for all time as a monument to the first colonisation of the planet. As the domes came down the human population was transferred into transport ships and ferried to puppetan space, from where they would be settled on appropriate worlds. Now here was he on the last transport ship heading back to give his report, which he had been informed Emperor Kermit was anxiously waiting for.
"All hands, ready for entry, 5.... 4.... 3.... 2.... 1...." came the voice over the speakers.
Benny braced himself against his seat and prayed to himself that nothing would go wrong. Despite having already been through two warp points on this human ship he was still worried that the volatile oxygen atmosphere would ignite during the entry procedure. The cabin went a strange flickering blue colour as the ship crossed into the warp tunnel.
"Entry successful, estimate exit warp tunnel in five point eight hours.”
Suddenly something grabbed one of Benny's floppy ears from behind and tugged it hard. He yelled in fright, jumped out of his seat and whirled round. There behind him was a small human child looking up at him with wide open eyes.
A human female rushed forward and grabbed the child by the hand. "Don't bother the nice man Sarah" she admonished the child who’s lip began to quake.
Benny smiled and said "don't worry about it" he kneeled down in front of the child and held out his hand "Hello my name is Benny, what’s yours?"
Funny how things change he thought, just a month ago if a human child had done that to my ear I would have....well, suffice to say it wouldn't have been pretty.

News of the war had spread quickly, every news agency was broadcasting their own exclusive interviews with the officers and military personnel, their own re-constructions of the daring missions behind enemy lines by the N.I.A.(Nilith Intelligence Agency), but whichever Nilith channel you watched, the one thing they had in common was the out come of this war was already clear. The Ur-Quan would lose...the enemy obviously had other ideas about the war or they would have given up already...maybe another empire was helping them!

When the war started in the Nilith's home quadrant steps were taken to ensure the survival of the snake race, whatever the outcome of the war. Huge ships were built for inter stellar travel. These hulks contained all the equipment needed to allow the Nilith to travel between quadrants and colonize new planets. The journeys of these ships would take thousands of years, maybe even more and many of them were destined to drift in the void for all eternity. Only a handful ever reached their destinations and even fewer managed to prosper.
One of these seed ships, as they had become known, drifted into the Nebula storm quadrant and it's on board computer located 3 suitable planets for colonization...it launched the valuable cargo of life that it had carried for so long. And though first settlers found themselves thrown back in time to when the first Nilith slithered onto land. Progress was quick and with each passing generation the glory of previous Nilith Imperium was ever closer!

2400.7 Zel-Nar system.
Top secret report from the CS Can-vas.
We have picked up alien transmissions in this system. There has been no visual or sensor scan to confirm their presence, but these transmissions could not have been produced by anything other than another sentient life form. We are awaiting further orders on first contact procedure.

Only seven months ago had the Nilith retaken to the void, and this first contact so soon was unexpected to say the least. Much could be learnt from another alien race, but death and destruction could also come knocking. The council would need to hear about this and with that thought fresh in his mind, Admiral Worc left the fleet room.
