Colonizing Sphere and Ringworls

For the life of me I can't colonize sphere and ring worlds. I have the 1.66 patch and I'm sending the right type of colony ship. Can anyone please tell me how to get your ship to colonize these man made planets?

select colonize and click on:
Sphere world: The big dark area that looks like a helipad, need decent timing!
Ringworld: Anypart of the ring

Remember you need a rock coloonizer
