Alpha Testing and Assistance

Submitted by battlespud on Sun, 2008-03-23 10:39. SE:V MODs

My veryyyy basic halo mod is in need of assistance! While its probably 10% finished i cant mod it any further, for after i tried to incorporate unnameds ai mod to help with the ai, the mod is useless. Even after i removed it and put the stock back in the aii no longer moves or builds or researchs whereas it used to build hundreds of ships within 15 years. i believe i got the random ai to build around,, *thinks* *checks logs* 400 ships at its peak though i killed around 100 with my carrier spamming. Anyone who can help wiuth an improved ai please do. i will be working on the mod as i recieve any reports.
What i needd is:

>A shipset for unsc and covies
>AI
>New component suggestions
>Maps, (i have one cant figure o;ut how to use it though)
This mod is a work in progress and this is the very leastttttttttttttttttt it could ever be. Future releases will hold:
Functional AI
ship sets
Total Overhauls of all components
Removal of shields as a generic area and only be racial
pre-packaged empires
Scenarios
Hopefully an FTL system if i get approval from Ispocyso when its finsihed and ai-able

What exactly was it you wanted a hand with? I may be able to help. I have just been playing around with the AI on my new mod, giving them new rules and new components to build, so may be able to point you in the right direction.

I need the ai to build ships and move them. Currently they just sit on their homeworld. Also i need the research to be correcated as all they research is focused on culture. Or if you could direct me to a tut on editing ai taht would also help. Right now thils is a one man project, a very busy mans project. I plan on adding tech areas and editing costs etc. (the reason some are so low right now was for ease of play testing while the ai still worked.
What i want the ai to do is this:
>focus on building cruisers and battleships with less ;of the battleships and dreadnoughts
>fully equipped carriers
>not waste space with componments that arnt neccesary
ex. Colony ship having:
tachyon grid
scattering armor
tons of sensors
a repair bay etc.
I want the ai to build intelligently without using unnecassary or overly expensive ships. Like most humans, i build cheap colony ships that can be built in on turn.

this is one of the files that tells the AI what to research: Script_AI_GlobalResearch.txt

This one deals with designs : Script_AI_GlobalSettings.txt

And Racename_Main_Script.txt can be changed per race for different technologies.
The rest is a bit beyond me at the moment Smiling

These files are all in the SE5empirescripts folder in the Script Parser utility.
More info about all the AI files can be found on the Wiki.

It is, in fact, just about the worst thing you could possibly do with modding. SE5 has excellent support for mod directories, and it is rather ridiculous to make completely separate copies of the game for each mod...

Submitted by battlespud on Sun, 2008-03-23 23:12.

tommorow (Maybe) i will be updating the files on fileforn withthenw component pics, components and research areas. Also the ukra tal(now renamed Covenant ) has had the ai files editied slightly. I think it willmakethem muchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh more aggressive but im not 100% sure. Will post when update ready.
PS: can anyone help with the mod maker issue? it would speed things up considerably with the components and research.

What parts did you change to try and make them more aggressive?

If you have told them to build more ships ect, then you should probably tell them to research mineral extraction a lot earlier too, otherwise they will just be shit, build too many little ships which will use all up their mineral production.
Last night I set up the AI in my game to do just this, also I told them to drastically increase the chance that they will build research colonies so that perhaps they can compete with me on research. I tried giving them more explo4rer ships, hoping that this might make them in turn build more colony ships for tghe extra planets they will find.
However, I have yet to test this, so it mi9ght even make them worse Eye-wink

Havent used the mod maker, so wouldnt know how to help you, but personally I would just make the mod by hand. That way you know exactly what you have or havent done, which will help you later with bugs... Smiling

Well, i dont have much choice now that its gone berserk! And i only use that for components and facilities and sometimes techs but i usuall do those by hand so i can copy and paste stuff. In the Halo mod i have minimized the amount of resources you need. You can still get a shortage but its rare, maintinence is at 2% for ships and facilities (though with the price of ships, that could be enough!) however since shipyards use a TON more resources a turn than stock you still cant build a baseship at 20 planets at the same time without a ton of spam about not enough resources.
