vista with SE5

Submitted by ftarzanin on Mon, 2008-03-17 22:49. Space Empires V Multiplayer

Where are the saved empire files hidden and how do I get access to them?

I'm setting up my empire and want to load it into a multi-player game. The empire has been saved, I can exit SE5 and return and can load th empire. But when I go to load the empire file ... I cant find the darn file using Vista.

I can navigate down to the SE5/savedempires directory ... but the file is not there! (no saved games are showing in SE5/savedgames).

I've searched the file system for the file name ... but it does not display.

I've changed the default file behavir to display hidden files and redid my search ... no go

I've even used the cmd shell ... and cannot see the file in the expected director ...

Thanks,

Frank

Saved empire files (.emp) are stored in the SavedEmpires folder.

I hit something similar on one of my vista PCs as well. When playing a "multilayer on different machines" game at the end of the turn it would say go send file XXX.plr to other players. But when I would go look for it it was not there. (Got no errors in SE5 saying it could not write the file or anything like that.

To get around the error I just ran the game in administrator mode. (Right click on the icon and use "run as administrator". You can also set this to be the default if you go into properties and click the check box). Once I did that the files started showing up on my hard drive again Smiling

Weird thing is my other PC which also has vista does not have this issue at all. Never did figure out why one does it and not the other.

Hope this helps.

You must be trying to get in ASTOCKGAME. AzogTheFestering was having the same problem. I passed the suggestions from here over to him on the PBW game forum there. Smiling

ah-Ha - running the game in admin mode seems to create the file so that I can see it in the file system.

Thanks folks!!!

One more update regarding vista. If you are starting your own game in vista, you will need to edit the file.gam file. In vista it has a suffix of .gsu so that a file of file.gam looks like file.gam.gsu to the game loader on the website. Once you edit the file and remove the gsu suffix, the game loader on the website works like a champ!
