Rescale combat effects

Submitted by lochkartenman on Mon, 2008-03-17 16:03. Space Empires V General

Hi everybody!

After a longer break due to university affairs I got back to playing again. I picked some of the cool SW shipsets and played a bit with the simulator but I am a bit upset because the combat effects (bolts and explosions) don't match my taste.
Could it be that the shipsets most recently released are smaller than stock? Because sometimes I barely see my frigate any more when it is hit by a projectile due to the huge explosions on impact. Same holds true for bolts, shells and missiles in general - these are a bit to large compared to the ships.

Question is: how to resize these effects. For most of the weapons I would like to have the size currently used for fighter weapons. The projectiles for fighter weapons are to be resized accordingly.

regards
Arne

I think this is the file you want: BitmapEffects_SpaceCombat.txt
it's in SEV\data

Changing the Width and Height of the explosion textures should do the trick.
As always make a backup just in case Smiling

Also, if you have some SW ships, you could replace some of the sound effects with starwars ones if you like or add in new ones, its very easy to do. Just replace the originals. Or create a mod with them in, creating a mod is the best way to do it. Same with the combat effects.
Hope that helps.

Even better, copy the file into GameTypes\Standard SE5\Data, and edit it there. It will be used for the stock game, and you won't need to mess around with the actual stock files. Smiling

Of course, if one uses a mod, then you can't take advantage of this trick and have to edit the file in that mod directly. Backups are still good in that case.
