Kicking Puppies or beating the AI revisited..... |

Hi all,
I'm back, after an extended absence overseas, and started playing SEV again. I must say it's great to see the game evolve the way it did.
But still the AI when it is so obviously beaten (100 warships bearing down on his last home world)refuses to surrender. Let's face it I'm all for going down with the ship but that's just silly. I've played a few mods (Balance and Dark mod, both very good) but the AI still refuses to surrender when beat.
Now I'm not a mod maker, but I know many games (SOS, GalCiv) have excellent AI that do not require mods to make it work better.
Still I know Aron does this primarily solo, and I give him a lot of credit for all his hard work.

Sometimes you need to demand their surrender a couple of times before they will concede.

I did that too
Every turn of war
only after said steps above he did the doggy thing.

You got that right, in GalCiv 2 the AI is so tweaked that you suffer at every step of the way just to keep from being last on the scoreboard.
DAMN!

It is true that Space empires is a form of space economy simulation; But where would rather spend your resources on: Buying off a tyrant or spending the resources on ships, shoving the demand up his ass?
Re: Kicking Puppies or beating the AI revisited.....
SOS and GalCiv have simplified gameplay aspects wherever the designers felt it would be necessary to help out the AI (SOS especially...). When you reduce the solution space for all of the game's mechanics, the AI is automatically easier to make "better" (in the misguided sense that any AI can actually be a worthwhile opponent). The more complex you make a game, the more difficult it is to write a truly competent AI. Even chess, with its comparatively tiny solution space of moves, practically requires supercomputers to run good AI algorithms.

I got one to actually surrender
Made a cease-fire agreement first
then leeched his tech.
and then the ai actually surrendered when asked ..
maybe you have to end the war first ? ..
