Racial technology

Submitted by Sandermatt on Tue, 2008-03-04 08:58. Space Empires V General

If I do not have a certain racial technology, is it then possible to get this technologies in any way from another player who has them?

Really? What about the "share all techs, even racial/unique" treaty?

That works if both players have the trait.

Which in itself, is a bit weird. You can ally with someone, but unless they acquired the tech themselves, it's useless? Looks broken to me.

It's about the fact that the race just doesn't have the capability of using that technology at all.

From a game play perspective, it's probably better this way. Can you imagine if everyone in a PBW game just traded racial techs they way they trade population and regular tech right now? Everyone would be flying around with all the racial techs and the interest factor would drop.

No, it means unless they have the trait they cannot get those racial techs from allies. Trait and Tech are different.

Think of it this way, a racial trait is something that a race has developed over the many many many years before they got space age technology, and they are still developing it and finding out weapons that are based off that technology and space ships...they have had the technology since the dawn of their creation.

That kind of technology has been developed far longer then the shield technology you started researching...also to point out an organic ship or temporal sensor can be argued to be such a different perspective of technology then what the other guy is using a simple analysis of the ship wont yield the technology and even if they wanted to give you the technology its just so different you just dont get what they are talking about

Okay, I have some related questions:
1. When you capture a homeworld, do you acquire the trait related technologies as well as the [i]unique[/] technologies (ruin tech)?
2. If you're in a game which started with multiple homeworlds per player, do you need to capture just one or will capturing the last homeworld be the trigger?

I can't remember having captured a homeworld in SEV through invasion yet, I somehow always ended up glassing them Sticking out tongue

I always thought you get no tech by conquering a planet, even a homeworld,
but only through surrender of the empire ?

A surrender will give you all techs, except racial ones which you do not have the trait for.
