Gonna be the first!

Submitted by LordHavoc on Fri, 2006-09-22 18:23. Space Empires V FAQs

I've always prided myself on being a tactical genius (being modest Sticking out tongue )

Ok that's probably got all you're heckles up. So now on to my point - Having played the demo, but not the beta or release of SEV i'm going to be making some huge assumptions here now.

I always like to keep a few cards hidden up my sleeve, so i'm not actually going to reveal whats in my dark mind. So instead, i'm going to ask this question - which actually goes to the beta testers.

Does cloaking exist? And does it allow you to move into the same sector as enemies without initiating combat?

Be aware that any and all tactical maneuver that span from this question have already been thought of from myself, and that I'm putting my reputation on a great limb in asking that question above.

Cloaking does exist. Whether

Cloaking does exist. Whether or not it works, I don't know. You could try using the ALLTECH cheat and designing a ship with a cloaking device.

In Galactic Civilizations , you can use Ctrl-N will restart the galaxy map without you having to redo all the steps before you press Begin.

In the full game, yes.

There's a "generate map" button on the setup screen that will let you create a new map. You can't peek at the actual systems though, and that button is NOT available in the demo.

Some of you old boys might have read the above, and i've finally had chance to test the theory thats been cooking in the dark recesses of my mind.

You're gonna love this nasty piece of strategy, and since it's not been posted on the board yet i'm gonna claim credit for it.

MM in there wisdom have allowed ship placement in a sector, meaning that if an attack comes to a stalemate you've got the opportunity to move your ships into a better position and re-intiate combat.

What i'm getting at regards the above question...

MM have introduced true suprise decloaking attacks!!! You cloak a ship, move to an adjacent sector of an enemy and then attack. Because you're cloaked you don't attack, but you do move into the same sector. Then you can place ships within the sector...voila, move your fleet and surround the enemy and when you start combat...BOOM! Finally making short range high damage weapons effective as well like the ripper beam.
