I keep getting this crash at random times early in the game or during game setup. Also, I get this:"Access violation at address 00473709 in module 'se5.exe'. Read of address 00000000. I googled this and found no answer. I can't be the only one. Or can I?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

its happened to me but only when i try to minimize and then when i maximize again its fine. I only get the error when i close the game and thats unimportant

You're not the only one getting that error, but every thread I've found that mentioned it seems to have it coming up in a different situation. Check whether anything from these threads applies:

The first thread is the only one that includes a workaround to avoid the situation that caused the error that time.
