Simply because it is the 16th doesn't mean the patch will be released at teh tick of midnight; A) I don't know what time zone Aaron is in; B) it wasn't said that it would be released at the tick of midnight on the 16th. He still has over 12 hours by some clocks (more for others) to make it.

Well, I've been answering the exact same thing on three threads now, got locked in tunnel vision.

On top of that, I *knew* this was going to happen and started warning people last night about timezones and middle-of-the-day release stuff. Kinda frustrating to know MM had layed out this mindfield for me to defuse, probably without even meaning to.

LOL Yeah but it wouldnt be so bad if there werent so many annoyances in the original release. I think everyone knows this can be a GREAT game, so they cant wait for the patch. I Know I cant.....ive got today off (didnt plan it that way) and ive been catching up on tivo'd SG-1 waiting for the release. With my luck it will come out tonight when im getting ready for bed.....LOL. Oh Well...Hey have fun trying to keep the dogs at bay.

Yeah, yeah. Give them some

Submitted by Moonsword on Mon, 2006-10-16 11:59.

Yeah, yeah. Give them some time. This release isn't nearly as bug-ridden as some (*gestures as FS2's retail release back in 1999*).

Patience is a virtue in software development. Lack of patience leads to rushed, buggy releases, bad management, and general screw-ups. SFI and Aaron will get it done if we give them some time.

In the words of a great man, "Ask me for anything but time".

No clue which great man, just that I've seen him quoted Sticking out tongue

If they need more time then fine, just don't promise a release on a specific day and not deliver (and do a press release to that effect as well!)

I feel your pain delijoe

Submitted by Baoghal on Mon, 2006-10-16 22:34.

I was waiting all day for it as well. I did not that Kwok had put up patch notes for 7 (!!) iterations of patches.
Without any word from from MM, we can only speculate what's going on, but my theory is that the game had to be minted and they sent out the best version they had. It doesn't look like MM has done anything EXCEPT fix bugs since it shipped, so if it doesn't make it out today or tomorrow or by Friday - I can rest easy knowing that the patch will be a good one. It's obvious that he cares about the game.
OK , so in the meantime if for whatever reason it wont run past a certain number of turns, practice different strategies before the game fails. If it wont run at all, play SE4! That game's pretty darn good too =)
But I do feel your pain... I'd be happier with a "The patch will be sent out shortly when its ready" instead of a firm date. You never know when you are going to break a piece of an app by "fixing" a different piece.

I can answer that!

I can answer that! Aaron is in the Eastern Daylight Time zone.

That

Submitted by Phoenix-D on Mon, 2006-10-16 23:48.

That'd be SFI, the publisher.

MM doesn't do press releases. He's more of a "ok, the web site was updated, back to coding for the next three months" kind of guy. Eye-wink

Next three months? Try four

Submitted by Moonsword on Tue, 2006-10-17 04:38.

Next three months? Try four or five.

At whoever mentioned 7 "itierations" of patches: those are version numbers, not patches. Just relax. Look at the version number of SE4 Deluxe: 1.95 as of the last patch. There were only about 20 patches to get there, too, not 95.

Version numbers often change fairly quickly in software development although Windows-based systems don't tend to be as obvious about it in my experience.

Hehe I am relaxed.
OK, they are version numbers, not patches. What's the diff? When you finish a new version, you compile it and make sure it runs. If you look at how much was fixed in each version, you can see how much work was going into each one. Looks like a hell of a lot of work to me, especially for someone that appears to be coding this game by themselves.
I didn't mean to confuse anyone by juxtaposing the word patch with version. The point I was trying to make was that Aaron was hard at work fixing his game, not that he had 7 "patches" already.
