War and Civilization 3

Submitted by Crian on Thu, 2008-02-28 10:29. Space Empires V Multiplayer

Hey all,

I've started a new game for BalanceMod v1.14, at the PBW site, this time for 10 players so it's more epic. War and Civ 2 is still in its early phase but I want more games! LOL, anyway, if you're interested read on...

---------------------------------------------------------------------

War and Civilization 3: Masters of Fate

PLEASE READ THESE RULES AND REGULATIONS:
1.) Hello, this is my 3rd War and Civilization game. Although the second game is still running and still in its early phase, I'm an impatient guy and I couldn't find any games I could join so I just started a new one. Also, I want it to be a bit more epic so I'm setting the players to 10. Please be patient as I won't start the game until there are 10 of us. Smiling
2.) Setup rules... Please follow the game settings I have placed here on the game description when creating your empire. I'll be strict on this and if your empire file doesn't match these settings, I'll reject it and you'll have to reupload another empire file.
3.) More setup rules... No similar shipsets, flags or race pics OK? If someone joined earlier than you and picked the ones you wanted then he has the right to them, you'll just have to choose another one. Again, no similar shipsets, race pics or flags please.
4.) Game rules... none really, other than roleplay. Roleplay is a REQUIREMENT.... if you call yourself an emperor/regent/warrior king/etc., then act like one. Strategize your way into achieving your personal goals any way you want. Laughing out loud
5.) Please don't leave the game. If you're gonna take a vacation or something inform us ahead of time. If the players are willing we could suspend the game for a while, if not, then you should be willing to risk the AI running your empire for you. Don't leave the game just because you missed several turns. Unless someone completely vanishes or something I won't kick anyone. Just be ready to accept that the AI will probably screw up your brilliant plans while you're away. Laughing out loud
6.) For questions, suggestions, email me at . Put "WaC3" somewhere in the message title. Smiling

Hello everyone,

I've changed some of the settings for War and Civilization 3 based on my experience on War and Civ 2. The settings on the first post are now obsolete, below are the updated game settings. Smiling

Oh and by the way turns are still at every 48 hours... plenty of time for everyone. Still just 2 players there now. There are plenty more slots so feel free to join so we can start. Smiling

6.) ADDED MARCH 2, 2008: I edited the tech cost now to high, to make ships more useful instead of getting obsolete after a couple of turns. Also, victory conditions are now either sole survivor or alliance of at most 3. This is to balance between war mongers and peacekeepers, encouraging conflict and cooperation at the same time.

7.) ADDED MARCH 2, 2008: Players can now only colonize their home planet type. In order to get colonies of a different type, they'll have to be traded or captured. This makes things much more difficult and interesting.

8.) ADDED MARCH 2, 2008: You can contact each other now via email outside the game in character but ONLY if you've made contact in-game. This is to speed things up.

9.) Suggestions? Comments? Email me at .

Aight, one more should work, I'm in! This will be my 3rd game and the others I'm in haven't even gotten halfway. PBW is like crack dammit (not speaking from experience), so much better than playing AI's.

Yes - I guess I can expect to see far fewer undefended colony ships trying to run through my heavily defended warp-points over and over and over...

LOL yeah... the sad part about PBW is that I just can't enjoy singleplayer anymore. Sad

So you just have to join another game... and another... and another to satisfy your craving. Haha! Smiling

OK 8 players again now, 2 more and we're good to go people!

Haha, that sounds like a double-edged sword, in a way. There aren't that many PBW games from what I can see - so you're limited by the participation of other players.

I have a question concerning combat though. I know that all the combat is simultaneous during these games but say I have a scenario where I have three ships attacking an enemy target from three different sectors...will all ships arrive at the target at the same time thus only fighting one battle together or will they arrive one at a time fighting 3 separate battles?
Do they all have to be the same distance away to arrive at the same time, or what?

@ Jade: I would expect to see all 4 ships in one battle, provided that their respective speed is sufficient to catch the targeted ship, since the turns should be executed simultaneously for all players. Haven't encountered such scenario yet though, so maybe someone else should confirm. By the way: did you use the "view all games" or just the "view open games" function on PBW? The former shows a mix of SEIV and SEV games, but you get to see all games in progress as well.

@ Crian: there isn't a single game in progress on PBW with more than 9 players, so it might be a bit difficult to get to the intended number. With your most recent changes to the game setup, I'm confident that 8 players is plenty.

Shrike

Thanks for the tip, I did check out the "view all games" section and to my surprise there are quite a few on the go at the moment.

I'm also going to have to agree with you concerning the number of players we have as well; I just checked and we're back down to 7 players again. It seems like 8 seems to be the best we can hope for for this type of epic game. If we're dead set on having 10 maybe we can fill the last few slots with AI players, although I could see that slightly unbalancing things. Having a weak-minded AI neighbour would be considerable advantage.

Hmmm.... it's been difficult yes. If the other two guys didn't pull out then we would be at 9 players by now. Sad

OK, if, come Monday next week (March 17 where I'm from) we still don't have 10 players, I'll set it down to 8, or 9 depending on how many have joined. Definitely not less than 8 though.

Providing they are trying to intercept it during its movement I would say that it is almost certain there will be 3 separate battles. If it won't be destroyed in 2, of course.

Welcome cerberus! Smiling

And don't worry about your lack of BM experience, it's easy to get into no sweat. Plus if you border with a friendly empire, then you'll be in luck. Otherwise if it's a warmonger you end up meeting first you might be in trouble. There are tons of possibilities! Even so, if you play your cards right, you could still survive who knows? Smiling

UPDATE: We now have 9 players! Just ONE MORE people and we could begin our grand adventure! Smiling

OK two people have expressed their interest in joining so I've editted the number to 12, which means you can join now eggsrid. Smiling

Once, however, Piffle uploads his empire file, I will close all remaining slots and get this game on the road so join now while they're open! Laughing out loud

Ummm... I can't change the number of players in the pbw site... any ideas how? I get a message that the game already started when it actually hasn't yet. If not then I guess we'll stick with 10, too bad all slots are filled already. Sad
