planet attacking noob

Submitted by Zodgrod on Fri, 2008-02-15 08:38. Space Empires V General

Hey guys,
In a simultaneous turn multi-player game, I am attacking a small AI colony with about 4 weapon platforms on it. I have 4 frigates in a fleet; some ships have depleted uranium cannons and some with cap ship missiles. Every turn I watch the report and the ships just sit there and do nothing. One or 2 of them literally sit and spin. The ships with cannons are on the stock short range strategy while the missile ships are on max range strategy. The fleet as a whole is on max range strategy. Does anyone have any idea how to debug this?
Thanks!
James

Is this SEIV or SEV? If its for SEV then you may need to edit your strategy. Scroll down to the bottom of your chosen strategy and you'll find all the things it can or won't target and what percent of damage to do even if it will target it. Change all those to your desired amount. Some of them may be Do Not Engage's and/or some may be set to less than 100% damage.

Also, try setting to Short Range.

You could also have some sort of treaty with the person you are trying to attack? That causes both your ships to just say 'hi'... and there no attack finding place.
Are you sure you are at with your target?

BTW - 4 frigates vs a planet with 4 platforms is a risky operation!

YES! I think I have a "no planetary bombardment" treaty with someone else. This could be it, but I thought for sure this refered to stuff that was explicitly for planetary bombardment (napalm and the like). Thanks, because the other 2 suggestions didn't help Smiling

That's a bad clause to include in a treaty. It cripples both parties.

Yes and no it is Smiling

To protect a party thats friendly with you, but at war with one or more of your other friends its good.

If it is to protect yourself against your allie its naught, bull, and all those other nice words for really unspeakable dumb,
because when war is declared all treaty elements go down the drain, and i couldn't care less, if you didn't want to be bombarded or not Smiling

"No Planetary Bombardment" means you're banned from attacking planets belonging to anyone, not just the empire you made that treaty with. Anyone.

Yes, thats what I meant with the good part .. if you are allied with to races that are at war with each other you can prevent them from bombarding each other ..

else its nothing that I want
