Technology Tree

Is it possible to mod in a UI change that will display the technology tree in a branch form in game? To show future techs and dependencies.

Any enterprising modder think they can do it?

i think that that is not possible, you could do it like me though
(idea stolen from paradox)
in the tech description i always have in the ende the sentence:
Leads to blablabla or if a different tech is needed to May lead to blablabla

Hummm.....What about drawing from an outside program? Like Devnull's editor for viewing the Tech Tree, but a lighter system resources version. Something like when you want to see the rules and it loads a PDF within the game. You use the same in game mechanic but pull a Tech Tree file. I thought about Kwok's balancemod chart, but I like the visual links from Devnull's editor. I know SE5 doesn't like to be minimized, so I'm not sure if this will work so well.

Would it be possible for the SE5 game engine to pull the info from the 3rd party program and then display it within the game? Basically, SE5 displays a blank Popup window that is filled with the display from the 3rd party program. That way the game stays running in full mode. I don't want SE5 to render the tree, but just open a blank window inserting the data from the other program.

Oh!! What about using something to create an image of the tech tree in the file format that SE5 can read and display in game. We add a UI button that calls for the new image to be displayed within game. This way SE5 is not making the tech tree, but just displaying a picture that was created by a 3rd party program. We already can insert our own images for mods, etc. Can we insert images into a UI pop up window? Each modder can use the program to save a version of their tech tree into their mod files then SE5 pulls that image in game for viewing. This way the game stays running smoothly.

Any of this sound doable?

A branch display system could become insane, cause you would have to potentially display every level of every tech (esp. when you get to more complex mods than stock). You would have to make sure not to do that, and instead show level reqs on the lines.. If you want the tech chart to show actual results, things might get hairy, since items can potentially require many different tech areas to be available.

Any alteration to what SE5 displays would require hard code changes.
