Game Settings

Submitted by zippyriver on Wed, 2008-01-30 23:42. Space Empires V FAQs

What game setting do you tend to like?

I've had my starts so far include cluster/medium/warp point connected and anywhere in the system. But it's the starting resources, tech and racial points that have me debating. I made my custom empire, but am rethinking some of my choices. I used game setting the are mid-ranged. And the tech points I am wondering where best they can be spent. Of course 200k need to be spent on a colony module type. I placed the rest kind of around to give a strong start in a couple of areas. Like engine techs, space yards, armor, PD, etc. But I am wondering if those points would just be best spent only on applied research.

Likewise with racial points. I take a couple of negative hits, to be able to pick up some other benefits. But unsure which ones might be too detrimental to an empire. For instance, cowardly. If I drop 150 troops, I really don't care what their morale is (kill a couple of them, please. lol). But I have not a a big end game situation yet. So far it seems like a viable (-) choice but don't know enough about the game mechanics yet to make an informed decision.

I play stock 1.66

Well, if I choose to have starting tech points at all, I put them either in Applied Research, or, if thats too costly (in some mods the RP cost of it has been jacked up), then I tend to stick it into Sensors. Having a decent sensor range is invaluable, especially for just starting out since you don't have the best engine tech yet and such. I'll research Sensors until level 5 or so (whenever you hit the first Tachyon sensors) and then switch to Engine tech. Then I make my first edition Recon Sat with the level 5 basic sensors + level 1 tachyon sensors and put 1 in orbit of all my planets.

Don't have to start with a colony tech. Smiling
