Defence Strategy |
Is there a Strategy (or can I modify one) so that my ships stay with the planet when being attacked...
Intention is to have the Missile WP's on the planet join the battle. (I will be facing greater number of ships and if my ships attack like bezerkers they will get slaughtered before the Missile WP's can shoot the enemy down...)
Thanks for the info,

Re: Defence Strategy
You could issue an order to have your ships retreat to the planet. This way they stay at the planet and do not move to attack the incoming enemy.
There is one problem with this though...the ships may not join in the fight because they tend to retreat to the center of the planet and hang around on top of it out of range of the enemy.
Try it...it may or may not work for you...it will depend on the range of your ships weapons.

Re: Defence Strategy
I'm not saying this would work, but one might try adding an immobile element to a TF, and setting it as the leader. I'm thinking a satellite, planet, or (best chance) base.
Shoot, I'll probably try this myself when I get a good opportunity.
I have in the past used single-engine designs to keep fighting elements from running too far out ahead. The result was an improvement, but still not fully satisfactory.
Re: Defence Strategy
If you use a retreat setting of "stay near planet", they'll stay close to the planet, however they'll be on the far side of the planet away from the attacking fleet. This will put them just barely out of weapon range, so if you want the ships to provide some sort of PD or other fire support, it won't happen a whole lot. However if you want the planet to serve as a defense for the ships, you should get that effect.
Re: Defence Strategy
With a retreat they will still try to avoid contact.

That's why Strategies are so important to me now.
Re: Defence Strategy
A strategy? I don't think so but I think you can issue movement orders so they hang around a certain location. Not sure if they'd stay there after the shooting starts. There should be a strategy though, like defend target or escort target.
