New: Exodus Mod

From way back when I first heard of Stars!Supernova I wanted to play a game where you had to evacuate your homeworld then pick up the pieces and take over the universe. Here is my feeble attempt to mod just that.

Premise: Just as your race starts to take it's first steps into the vastness of space your scientists discover your home star will explode destroying everything in the system within a few years.

Basics: On or before the game year 2404 all players suns will explode wiping out anything left in there. One small glimmer of hope is that it doesn't look like it will happen until after 2401 at the earliest. The log will relay critical information including a last minute warning 1 to 4 months before the worst happens (check the entire log they will appear as the last item each turn).

The overall idea is to move enough population to sustain your eventual empire out of your home system. At the same time building up infrastructure in other systems to sustain you when your homeworld is destroyed. Afterwards the goal is the same as 'normal' games.

I have uploaded the mod at seiv.pbw.cc and I have started a game if anyone is interested. It is called (creatively enough) Exodus Mod Game 1.

I am interested is anyone has any suggestions or ideas, this was just a simple mod but I thought it would be interesting to play once in a while. If anyone is interested the external events text file is included in the mod.

Hmm, could be interesting, would have to put everything else on hold and research freighters and cargo first, then try to carry on like normal ..well, not quite normal as you would have to start from scratch with everything ..ouch. Would be fun to give it a whirl though. Smiling

Sounds nice... Is all the rest (tech tree) like stock, or did you base the mod on BM?

It is straight Balance Mod except for the special event of the sun exploding.

If you don't want to play a PBW game, I suspect you'd win quite easily, as I doubt the AIs have been modified to evacuate their homeworlds... then again, I could be pleasantly surprised Smiling

Talk about starting in the hole.

Sys_is_player_human?
Game_date>2404?
Sys_random(1,2)=1 then explode sun game_date + 2.0
sys_random(1,2)=2 then explode homeworld game_date + 1.0

At work and unable to expand this response but what the hey? Sounds like a real pickle to be in at the start of a game.

Side thought: Where do your ships go to combine into a new fleet?

You are correct that I haven't touched the AI on this. I doubt that I will, I always thought of this as a PBW game. Though in a couple of test games one of the AI's managed to evacuate a fair amount of population (500-600m) and kept a fair score. But almost all of them just ended up with a handful of odd colonies and large holes in their economy.

I had thought about only blowing up planets for human players. I think that makes the most sense, it will be a tough start though Eye-wink

Version 1.00 is up on PBW. Only human players will have their homeworld's star blow up. Should be quite a challenge to play against them.
