Is it possible to upgrade/retrofit units ??
At the moment I have a couple of lvl 1 Capital Missile Weapon Platforms and several lvl 3 Sensor Sattelites but as time goes by I will have better tech levels so I will make design upgrades... But can I retrofit units or should I scrap them and build new and better ones ??

As far as I know units cannot be upgraded, they have to be scrapped and then new versions built. An easy way to see what units (ie Weapon Platforms etc) each planet has in cargo is to go to the colonies list and change it to the cargo layout and then use the 'scrap cargo' option.

You can retrofit by moving your ship(s) to a planet with a space yard and go into the option called: Deconstruction orders -> Retrofit, and select your ship(s)
EDIT: just notice that you didn't say ships but units I think fighters and satelites are done in the same way, I dont know about troops and weapon platforms.
EDIT2: I just tried it now but I couldn't find a way to retrofit the differnt units..
