Question concerning Crystalline Armor

Ok, for this game I'm running just Unnamed Mod w/FQM (if that has any bearing on it) and was wondering:

If you are using Crystalline Armor on your ships and you do not have any shields, i.e.- no shield generator components, will the armor still give you shields? I remember someone once saying it just modifies your existing shield number but if you don't have nay to begin with is this ability just wasted?

On an unrelated subject, is there anyway to use the Unnamed Mod AI with Devnull's Mod? That would be perfect! =D

So, I'm guessing nobody knows the answer to this question then? Bummer.

yes u need to have sheild generators present for the crystaline armor to work, otherwise it an expensive waste.

as for modding them together u would have to do that yourself as there no easy way to combine mods at present. try just adding components and suchlike from one to the other, however the ai would still need to rewriten to handle it.

That's something I've always wondered about too, that C-Armour. If shields take damage before armour, you're not going to have any shields left when the armour starts getting hit. So it looks like the stuff would only be good against shield-skipping weapons.

My only game with C-tech was aborted before I got shield gen's, so I never found out exactly what happens...

Not really, Dvoongar, if you think about it - Ship A shoots you with normal weps and your shield takes the damage for the 1rst round, 2nd round shield takes half the damage, is depleted, and the armor takes the second half of the damage converting a portion back to shields to partially soak up the 3rd round of damage etc.

It will definetly help with normal weapons. It would be useless against shield skipping weapons because the benefit (free shields) would itself be skipped so no benefit. In fact, crystalline armor would only be good against normal weapons, shield skipping and armor skipping totally negates its benefits, methinks.

I think I get it. The stuff's beneficial in the right situations, but junk in the wrong situations.

C-tech's still worth taking for the other bennies, so even if I don't end up liking the armour I won't dismiss it.

Current game's BM, so that makes a difference.
