Ships won't attack!

Submitted by hooko22 on Tue, 2008-01-08 03:15. Space Empires V FAQs

I have been playing this game for some time now and can't say I have ever encountered this one before. The thing is I just installed the game again after some time and after getting a new computer. Don't get me wrong no problems there. I installed the balance mod and started a new game.

Well anyway like I have done so many times before I build ships and then when I order them to the same square as the enemy ships (to attack them) they merely go there and sit there with the ships their supposed to attack! Everything works perfectly when I attack planets. I made sure that my ships had all weapons and amunition and that was ok!

Oh and I did declare war on them even though to my recollection that wasnt needed.

So what is the deal?

Anyone encountered this before and maybe even have a solution??

Do your weapons have enough ordenance and supplies?
Are the ships strategies & fleet strategies not set to 'Don't Get Hurt'?

Are you sure, that ship is not cloacked?
May be that ship is in asteroids?

Also: One time I tried to atack ship with big fleet, was no battle, and i was surprised, as it become mine next turn.

What it might be is your Strategy type - different Strategies have different firing orders, some are set to not fire out certain things if say theres no weapons on it (like a colony ship). Check your Strategy for your ships and make note of what they were trying to fire on.

For the above reason, I usually modify or create my own Strategy with exactly the conditions I want and not pre-conceived ones from MM. I then have my ships firing at everything I want it to and nothing I don't want it to, its easily customizable. Play around with it!
