So what's up with Steam?

Submitted by Chris_W on Sat, 2006-10-14 10:54. Space Empires V General

Why does spaceempires5.com announce as if it's been released, throw up banners as if it's 'now available on steam', when in fact that's not the case and probably won't be the case for a while?

Oct 16th is the official date

Probably because you can pre-order it. October 16th was the official date and still is, although a few retail stores spilled out copies early...

Alright, if 16's the official date then I can understand that. Just that not only did that 'now available on steam' advert confuse me, but so did the news that stated, quoting: "We here at Malfador Machinations are very excited that “Space Empires V” is finally available for purchase." (especially since -available for purchase- has been so for a while already, wordplay)

Serious mess over this entire release. Starting with Australia rumours, then the retail shops, now with those news and adverts all around the place.

Now available on Steam or Available via Steam OR NOT

Submitted by Ulfar on Sat, 2006-10-14 16:02.

Sorry hate to be picky but it is not available by Steam at this time.

Now means now not Monday, oh and what numpty thought Monday was a good release date. Subtle Hint you want a day with an F in it so people can play over the weekend. Even better would have been Thursday for digital download so that all people could have a chance at getting it. My receipt even states that I can download it now.

Sorry if my post sounds like a rant but I really wanted to play this weekend. If someone could tell the guys at Steam to activate the download would be most happy.

So, since 16th will be the date when patch will be released, will Steam release a patched SEV or will it be like weeks until Steam folk can actually get the patch?

I'm beginning to regret I bought the game from Steam in the first place. But that was kinda the only chance I had, since Strategy First throws me a "NOT_ALLOWED_TO_ACCESS_SITE We have encountered an internal application error. The error has been logged. Contact System Support" every time I try to enter the order page, no matter what browser or computer I use.

Strategy First also announces on their pages as if SEV is available through Steam. What a joke.

Anyone know which time zone

Submitted by Wrongshui on Sun, 2006-10-15 18:20.

Anyone know which time zone steam is in? I seem to think its GMT -8 fron the DoD:S/RO release.

I can assure you that the release in Australia was not actually a rumour as I have now had the retail version for just over 2 weeks. But you are correct that the release has been all over the shop.

Don't count on time zones

Submitted by Rilbur on Sun, 2006-10-15 22:22.

Don't count on timezones to release the patch... as for steam, since its automated, maybe, but I'm betting we won't see the patch untill mid day, at best Sad

There are 10 types of people in the world:

Those that understand binary, and those that don't.
