Space Yard Component

Submitted by airborne on Sun, 2007-12-30 05:48. Space Empires V FAQs

Hello, I am a New Player of SEV and I get a lot of information on this kind of forums. Thanks.
I have a doubt about the Space Yard Facility and the Space Yard Component. Are they the same thing?
How can I get Space Yard components to put it on my Bases?
Can I construct ships on this bases?
Thanks for the answers.

The facility and component are functionally similar and yes you can construct ships from the SY component on a ship or base. I believe the functional limit for SY components is one per ship/base. I rarely place SY components on ships but it is useful for building bases at warp points, etc. Smiling

Space yards in fleets are invaluable, since you never know when you might need to jury-rig some new mine sweepers deep in enemy space. Eye-wink

Be aware that if you build a ship requiring a crew it must be built on a planet. You can only build ships run by computer systems with the spaceyard component as the ship with the component has only enough crew for itself.

Well, actually, you CAN build crewed ships in space - they just will have no crew on them and thus will move at 1 hex per turn until they reach one of your colonies where they will refill on crew! Sticking out tongue

If only there were a "transfer crew" order... *sigh*

Was wondering....if you put cargo holds on the station with the shipyard component, and filled it with population, would any ship you built at that station be crew equipped automatically?

Probably not; population in ship/base cargo does not count as population for any purpose (other than being able to be dropped on a planet).

So, if i built a space station in orbit above one of my colonies, and it builds a ship at the station, it will have no crew, but if i leave the ship there for a turn or 2, then it will recieve crew from the colony the station is orbiting?.

If you build a ship in a space station over one of your colonies the crew is allways on board.

Yes, orbital shipyards are the way to go when you have way too many resources to spend and you're not playing a mod which allows more than one SY per planet Eye-wink

I've had planets with a dozen Shipyard bases. It almost becomes an unfair exploit. Smiling

I'm playing a game now with 45 ship yard bases in orbit around my homeworld and an additional 20 mobile shipyards at the same location. they are great for unit production since they are so much slower than planetary shipyards
