No script function to get abilities? WTF?!?

Geez, you'd think there would be a script function for something as basic as "get the ability amounts of some ability on a space object"... am I stupid or something, or did Aaron actually forget to put that in???

There are system script functions for seeing if a component or facility has a certain ability.

Hmm, that would involve looping through all the components or facilities on a ship or planet in script... certainly doable but rather annoying... Sticking out tongue

May be you need this?

Get_Design_Ability_Component_Count
(Ability_Type_Name: string ): long
Returns the total number of abilities of type “Ability_Type_Name” on this design. Abilities can be from the design, the vehicle size, or any of its components. Can only be used on design objects.

That would be useful, IF I were in Components.txt or VehicleSizes.txt... unfortunately what I wanted to do was get that value given an arbitrary space object (ship, planet, whatever) in an event script Sad
