Where did the Explorer and Scout design type go?

Submitted by noxxle on Mon, 2007-12-24 18:13. Space Empires V General

Just installed 1.66 and I don't see these design types. When were they removed? When i've got over a dozen explorers I prefer to have ministers automate them Sad

The stock SE5 has never had those design names that i can remember, i added them myself with a few others to the list. I know Capt.Kwok did add those designs to his B.M.mod (balance mod), and i'm sure some other mods have also added them.

You can add them yourself by going into the SE5 folder then Data then Design names and just type them in. Make sure you type them exactly as the ones already existing there. Hope this helps,,and merry xmas.

What I really want is a minister for explorer ships that tells them to automatically survey a system when they find a new one.

The AI has always used idle Attack Ship designs for exploration, since at least SE3-SE5.

I put sensors on my colony ships now and use them to explore. If they find a juicy planet then they can colonize it. Kills two birds with one stone in the early game. My warships usually have sensors as well so the idea of a "Scout" ship is not needed. Smiling

I never let the AI explore for me. It's too inefficient. I do however put sensors on everything. At least Basic sensors, they only take 10 space, so it's not much.

My ships that are designed for scouting get refitted with solar panels later to generate energy for warships.
