Battle Sounds?

Submitted by Zarsynn on Thu, 2007-12-20 12:48. Space Empires V General

Hi all-
Anyone else not hear weapon sounds during battles on a normal or far out zoom?
IE- On 'Normal' (what you start out at) zoom levels and all that I hear is the musc.

Seems odd that I need to zoom Waaaaaay in to hear them.

Not sure if it is because i tweaked the zoom level or not- I kinda doubt it though.

Thoughts?

There are volume limits set on each sound effect, so when you do zoom in some sound effects will only be heard at certain zoom levels.

You can change these levels are which they are heard in the sound effects data file, has the level at which heard and if its 3d or not (some other settings also, can't remember off hand). You can check each setting value against the mod doc in the utility folder in the Space Empires main directory.

Hard-core players should not want to hear battle-sounds in space. Remember: in space, no one hears you scream!
Sounds are ok during surface-battles - if an atmosphere is present...
Music is fine - I prefer "ride of the valkyries" for massive fleet actions, so I edited my music file.

"Data File" as in one to compile somewhere within a folder? Or a simple text file I can tweak away at?

I've not seen them before--- course, I haven't really looked either Eye-wink

It's just a text file... SoundEffects.txt in the data folder.

Exactly! I don't even play with sound. Helps things go faster. Smiling
