How to have 20 Empires?

Deca's picture
Submitted by Deca on Sun, 2007-12-16 02:10. Space Empires V General

SEV 1.63
BM 1.11

I am NOT using quick start.

I cannot get more than 10 total empires in a game. I've tried numerous quadrant sizes, altering the settings.txt etc.....

In my latest attempts, I have set the "Number of Computer players" to maximum/high when choosing the Empire options during game setup.

Furthermore, I have altered the settings.txt set to the following:

Minimum Computer Player Low Setting := 19
Maximum Computer Player Low Setting := 19
Minimum Computer Player Medium Setting := 19
Maximum Computer Player Medium Setting := 19
Minimum Computer Player High Setting := 19
Maximum Computer Player High Setting := 19
Minimum Neutral Player Low Setting := 0
Maximum Neutral Player Low Setting := 0
Minimum Neutral Player Medium Setting := 0
Maximum Neutral Player Medium Setting := 0
Minimum Neutral Player High Setting := 0
Maximum Neutral Player High Setting := 0

I also used the following:
Minimum Number Of Systems Large Quadrant := 60
Maximum Number Of Systems Large Quadrant := 60

The problem is that I am unable to ever get a game with more than 10 total ( 9 AI + 1 player ). I've done this numerous times, thinking that it would eventually generate a game with more than 10, but unfortunately it has not.

Am I doing something wrong?

I do not want any "neutral empires" because they (for whatever reason) are not able to expand (due to not able to use Warp Points, i think).

How can I get 20?

I thought that I could have 19 AI Full Empires + 1 player Empire for a total of 20 as a hardcoded maximum.

the neutral empires are intended to not leave their system.

on your problem...what are your map settings?? maybe you use a map that doesn´t have enough starting positions for more than 10 players??

another problem could be that there are only 14 ai races in the stock game and the bm-mod doesn´t add new ai-empires. so i guess you won´t reach that 19 ai-empires in one game unless you add some empires to the game.

Agreed - there aren't 19 regular empires for the randomiser to pick. You'll either need to create 5 of your own custom empires at Game Setup or copy/paste some of the empire folders and give them different names in the data files.

You can get it by manually adding 20 empires at the startup, and setting all but one as AI empires. But again, you have to make multiple copies of some of them, or create your own.

These no other way around, other than creating 19 AI players profiles each time?

Does anyone have some pre-configured and/or created Empires for the BM mod (or Stock) as I would rather keep in the "spirit" of the game; however, SEV is the first game in the Space Empire series that I've played; hence, I do not know which ships/techs/traits are supposed to be with which Races that I am sure long time SE players know by heart.

You only need to create 5 AI empires manually. Then have the standard 14 be created randomly. Make those 5 empires however you want, though flags and portraits may overlap a little (unless you really go far and find your own pictures for them and add them to the available list).

You can save the created empires to a file, so you don't have to create them every time again... unless you want to play with different points.

Btw... if you use some of the shipsets available that would make the empires go up to over 20, so no need to create them manually. (You have to edit Settings.txt to have the new shipsets in a quickstart game, though)
