Game hangs at Processing after all players turns |

This is Unnamed mod, using the (most excellent!) Gorn shipset.
All players complete, but it hangs around 30% of the way through the end turn processing.
I did a full uninstall, took out everything, reinstall to 1.63, installed Unnamed and Gorn shipset.
Tried a different PC, same problem.
If I end task, I can restart that turn and it will complete for a couple of turns, then it happens again.
Help.
I have a save game.
How do I turn on logging? What would I be looking for?

You use the Gorn shipset as Allton Alliance under human contol, right?
I had no problem with your savegame turn processing with version 1.63.

I have now run into this problem twice now since 1.63 (not sure if it was in 1.58). From my debugging logs, it stalls with external intel scripts and happiness (changing happiness, happiness caused planet to switch teams). I'm going to send the games and logs to MM tonight, havent had a chance yet.
From everything I've looked at, it appears to be a game bug and not an Unnamed Mod bug.

I've encountered the same problem. After some turns the blu "After turn end processing" freeze... in all my games, with or without any mod!!!

Alright everyone, I have found the culprit. It is indeed in the main intelligence script. Whats happening is that planets are rebelling because of intelligence attacks, but the script doesnt pick a new empire for the planet to join (chooses 0). So I have created a temporary fix that makes the rebelling planet join the empire that created the intelligence attack. I will post the fix on my wiki page until a proper patch is officially released. I have told Aaron about the problem, but no idea when it will be fixed.
Get the fix here . First in the Data folder, make a copy of the originial script_main_intelligence.csf and store it somewhere safe (shouldnt need it, but you never know). Then copy the downloaded file into the data folder. Run your game as normal.

After using your fix, the problem still remain! Instead of blocking at 30% of the blue-bar, it block at nearly 80-90%... sigh...

Its probably a different bug then. Check your inbox for a place to send a saved game to (if you have one and dont mind). I'll look into it if you have a saved game and I get some time.

From what I can tell, the problem only appears with intel causing revolts. I think the unnamed mod targets intel much more (sabotage, and a particular player) with the hopes of getting past the built up defense intel points players save up. So stock games may not normally get past the defense intel points. BM does intel different and may not have the problem at all.
You can always send the info to Aaron, the more people that comment on the problems, hopefully the sooner it will get fixed officially.

We've run into this problem (at least the debug output looks similar) three times now with the stock game (1.63) + few custom ship sets.

I have run into this problem a couple of times playing the Balance Mod. There was a thread on it about three weeks ago that just seemed to fade away without resolution. It only happened two or three times to me, within a couple of turns of game start, then not again. It seems pretty elusive.

If you ever run into bugs, send a copy of the save game to Aaron with a description of the bug. The more people that do the quicker he fixes them officially.

I am having the same problem an I have only added one shipset. It takes 5 minutes to process the turn and then it only completes 50 to 30 percent of turns then I have to close and restart to attempt again. This is very frustrating. In the past bugs could be worked around but I cannot play the game. Please advise where to send a copy of the saved game to and advise which of the patches had the fewest crash issues. I was running with 1.44 or .45 without any more than a few quirks and the rare crash. Again this is more than a bug to the people who have it it is a gamekiller.

Send your bug descriptions and saved games to directly. This gives it directly to Aaron to officially fix. The more he gets the higher priority they will be and the more examples he has to try and track the bug down.
Beyond that, you can try my unnofficial fix (found on the link below). Since I've added it, I havent had any more problems, but no promises. Good luck.

Howdy. Got SEV a few days ago, played about 50% of the time since then (it's got that potato chip 'Just one more turn' compulsive thing). Plain vanilla game, patched to 1.63, turn 90 or so, CD version.
I'm getting the same error as Iron Giant, hanging at the 'processing after all player turns...' about 30% of the way through. However, I'm getting it every darn turn.
Sniffle, please help, the Melochians are lost without my leadership and I really want to try the brand new ship capture stuff.
I'll try the unamed patch.

The unamed patch appears to work. I just played for 3 hours without the bug.

I had this problem over a year ago when SEV was released. I decided to give it another try with the new patch and it was still happening. I found a temporary solution though. If you take control of each CPU controlled empire, make treaties with them so they can't perform intelligence you shouldn't have a problem, at least I didn't. When you go to war with them then it can still be an issue. I really doubt this will ever get resolved by Malfador, or Aaron, or whoever, they've had almost 2 years to fix a problem that is a gamekilling bug, with 0 success. It makes playing the game almost a complete waste of time. The other bug I would like to see fixed is the Carrier recover units command, I can't recover fighters!

I had the same problem as Iron Giant. I was just getting ready to shelve the game again, but tried unnamed's patch. As soon as I applied it, it worked and I had a planet revolt and become a part of my empire. Presumably it was this planet switching empires that was causing the hang.

hello my first post...
I have a similar issue with the game locking up with the game hanging at the 'processing after all player turns...' as well.
Ive downloaded the Unnamed AI fix but it still the same.
One thing though, two of the Empires in the game have formed an alliance but they have no flag, and its coming up with
could not load file c:\program files\strategy\Malfador Machinations\Space Empires Compilation\SE5\pictures\flags\
yet does not mention the flag name. I have double checked the directory and all the flags look present.
I'm using Balanced Mod with the graphics from FMQ's updates.
Ive had to quit and tried to reload the game but it now crashes out on the load.
unfortunately i was only using the auto save and each one of them has the same error....
ps thank you lot for the constant updates and improvements on the game....

You might want to check out the changelogs for the upcoming patch, it seems the problem was identified and solved. A workaround has also been posted in these forums, if you can't wait for the next patch release.
I have to ask: How many bug reports did you file on the problem? MM can't fix things without bug reports and savegames to reproduce the problem. It may have taken this long to get a fix because too many people spent time complaining and not enough time doing something constructive.
Oh, and one other thing: the game was released in October 2006, IIRC. I don't think that counts as "almost two years".

Yea, I have better things to do than file bug reports. I feel it is not my job to do "something constructive" on behalf of Malfador. Call me an Idealist but when I pay for something I expect it to work, go figure. Maybe part of the problem is that game development studios nowadays release thier product too quickly? Maybe they know by now that gamers will fix most of the problems that occur for them and they feel that it isn't important to release a quality finished product? I think that is something that should change. I already knew it had something to do with the end turn intelligence so I assumed Aaron knew this and had probably known it for quite a while. I e-mailed him to simply voice my concern over this issue that has been occuring for so long. I hope the problem has been solved, we'll see.

Exactly the attitude I expected. How would you feel if your boss walked up to you one day and said "You're fired because you make too many mistakes.", when no one told you what you were doing wrong? How would you feel if your boss said "I just expected you to do the job perfectly, first time, all the time, every time. You shouldn't need feedback." That is why bug reports are important, they let the developer (and remember, Malfador Machinations is only one man) know what has been done wrong. Don't assume someone else is going to do it, do it yourself.

Maybe you're afraid of a MOO3-style debacle? Not likely to happen, considering the support history of previous SE games. SE:IV was supported for years, both for bugs and added features.

I guess I'm not the only experiencing this bug! I had to go back to V 1.44 to get through a complete game. In V 1.58, when you click the Colonize Tab... GAME OVER!... Literally! So far 1.44 is the most stable release since 1.35.
Supposedly the bug is in repair with the next patch.... I hope it's soon!

I'm having the exact same problem. Using Sabotage : Empire Wide Intel, the game crashes every few turns. If I set intel to Espionage, the game will run fine. Also, not sure if this is just a problem with Vista, but I am unable to kill the task and have to reboot.
Can someone please tell me how to enable logging, and where to find the save game directory? Thanks!

The Save game directory for standard installation (non steam) is C:\Program Files\Strategy First\Malfador Machinations\Space Empires V\Savegame
You can turn on debugging which will produce logs of the turn (can slow down game significantly). You would change the settings debugsettings.txt in the data folder.

unnamed, where on those links you've posted is the patch? All i can see are versions 1.07 and 1.08, i'm having the trouble that iron giant has mentioned, although i am using several custom ship sets, but they have all worked in the past.

Hello. I'm new here and I am having a similar problem.
First off, I am not using any Mods, Cheats, or anything else. I have a brand new PC (3GB Ram, etc.) and windows is set to determine the size of my virtual memory. I have updated the game to version 1.66.
I don't know how to "submit" a saved game, but I have been playing this particular scenario for a great deal of turns. I've intermittently encountered the "processing bug" throughout, but usually if I toned down my Intelligence spending the problem would cease. However, I'm down to using my 1.5 million Intelligence points strictly for defense and no matter what I do the game will freeze at about 70% of Processing All Players. Also, if I spent a single point in Planet and Colony Sabotage the game would throw up an error stating "Unable to Save blah blah blah" during the processing task, which is what tipped me off to begin with that the bug might be related to the Intelligence allocation for some reason. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Hey Everyone,
I've looked into this as deeply as I know how, including applying my patch from version 1.63. Since using that patch I have had zero "unable to save' errors. (run about 20 - 30 turns). However I am running into game hang ups during end of turn processing with the blue bar about 70% across. From everything I can tell this has to do with the main program and not any of the empire scripts or the main intelligence or external events scripts. It seemed to hang between processing politics and happiness (as best as I can tell). Since this is an area I cant fix, I may personally go back to version 1.63 and just use my patch. Using my patch with that version, I know of no game ending bugs. I will also repost my patch later tonight for anyone else wanting to do the same. As you may guess your save games will not like this so you would have to start new games in version 1.63. Now for me, its back to my mod, and waiting on Aaron to fix these problems.

Just have to agree with the OP. The Gorn shipset is most excellent!
While I'm here, thanks to Unnamed for the mod. I played it under 1.58 and was very pleased.
