Question about this site and logging in

Submitted by Isdahl on Sat, 2007-11-17 03:04. Space Empires V General

Sorry if this is not the place for this post, but i'm a little frustrated. Can some one tell me why i have so many problems logging into this site. I put in my name then password, and it even shows me on the current user list, but it never lets me submit a question or a reply unless i log in, which i do again and the same repeats. i always have to get an email for a temp password to beable to post new questions, always.Right now in the upper left column of this site is my user name,a list of news choices and my image gallery,my account, inbox, etc. But when i try to log in tommarrow, i'll type my name , password, and those things wont be there and i wont beable to post questions...again. beleive it or not, i've been a member for over a year, but due to the constant new password problem, i just got tired of trying to ask and just read posts. well now i'm pissed off and so i made the post. Can someone tell me what is wrong and why i have to keep getting this password thing sent to post and how i can fix this problem. i'd like to atleast ask a question with out going thru this new password thing everytime, lol ty for help

Have you tried deleting your cookies?

That's odd that that happens to you. I don't have any problems logging in. I don't have to "delete cookies" as Kwok says. Anyway, some people may not even know what these "cookies" are. They are part of the internet browsing history on your computer but I don't see the correlation of them to Isdahl's problem.

Sometimes cookies get corrupted and don't remember logins or passwords correctly. This could force the user to log in to the site again when they come back later or make a post etc.

Cookies are part of your browser. Sites leave a cookie with loggin information and such so that your are 'remembered' by the site. Like Kwok stated, they sometimes get corrupted (and is usually only specific to one site). The easiest way to fix a cookie problem is to clear them from your browser's memory. However this clears ALL cookies and any other sites you auto log into will be reset.

In explorer go to TOOLS >> INTERNET OPTIONS >> DELETE COOKIES

this should fix your log-in problem.

not sure where cookies are stored, so i can't give any advice on deleting the specific cookie for this site.

But what Isdahl is saying is that he has to keep getting new passwords in his email; not that he just has to keep logging in with the same password.

Also, maybe a quiker way to access internet browsing history options is to right click on the Explorer icon then choose internet properties.

I had some time ago similar experience, I just suddenly was in situation where I was listed as online user BUT online users (all, including myself) was listed gray, not blue like normally and new posts was not listed and I couldn't write new topics or replies. I didn't changed my password and I didn't deleted my cookies (I'm old and slow, you know...). This behaviour lasted about two weeks, and suddenly without any reason it got back normal. I had some 'new' posts to read because it (or what ever you call this conference or system/sw behind it) marked all new within this two week written as new ones. Still cleaning...

Well, i haven't got around to checking cookies yet and so far everything is fine, go figure. Its 7:20 am pst, so far so good. Lets hope it lasts. I'm begining to think this is like a woman, just when u think everything is fine...its not, and when u think u have the answer ...u dont. and there's no telling when the next problem will arise...just know it will, and when u know there is a problem...everything is fine, lol. so, i guess i'll deal with it the same way as them, be greatful its over, never knowing what happened, and dont waste any more time on it then u need to, lol. I guess i've learned something in these 50 years of life on this planet. well thnx all for the help, and i'll just keep my fingers crossed, besides i'd rather be playing SE5 then writing this, so good hunting all and kill well.
