Is it possibe to refit older units with newer designs? I know how to do it for ships but not weapon platforms and satilites.
Is it even possible?

While it's true you can't retrofit units... it's a weird thing as in VehicleUnitTypes.txt, there is a "can be retrofitted" attribute to some of these units... not been implemented yet I suppose.

No. Just scrap and rebuild.
