Drones not working in Full Version

I finally got the game yesterday and last night I researched drones and build them. When I launched them in combat, they just sat there and did not move. Has anyone else had this problem? 8-(

It's a bug

Submitted by Captain Kwok on Thu, 2006-10-12 09:06.

There is a bug with units and that they will only move if they have ground movement with their engines. Since the Drones use regular engines without any ground movement specified they won't move in combat. You can temporarily fix this by adding ground movement to the regular engines.

Otherwise, it should be fixed for next week's patch.

It actually looks like a pretty easy mod. I'm no expert at modding, but I think all you have to do is modify the Ion Engine description in the components.txt file in the "data" directory.

you don't want to go around changing the actual game files. instead you'll want to create a copy of the files you want to change and make your modifications to the copies. )thereby creating your own modded version of the game).

thats what this game is really all about Smiling

its been awhile since I messed with modding Space Empires, so I'll see if I can figure it all out and post some useful instructions.

if you want to try it yourself, do some research on modding SE, then check out the descriptions for ION ENGINE and NUCLEAR GROUND THRUSTERS in the components.txt file. You need to give the Ion Engines the "Ground Movement Standard" capability.
