Storm versus Asteriod display properties

Have a question for the mod experts out there: what is the main difference and reason for the display difference of storms versus asteroids?

Here is what I did so far and the results:

I swapped an asteroid xfile with a storm graphic file (both out of the stellerXfiletypes data file) and when I got in game, I see the two switched on the strat map but when I click detail map I get just the combat grid with no storm or asteroid models or graphics.

I'm assuming the display properties are different for storms versus asteroids but I don't see the data file entry lines that would make a difference if I use models or graphic pics to display the type.

I found another question related to this one while I was poking around trying to answer my own question:

In the settings data file there is a line 'Created Asteroids Use Stellar Ability Type", and when I looked in the Mod Docs, there it was "When creating asteroids due to stellar manipulation, the name of the stellar ability
type to use (from the file se5\data\StellarAbilityTypes.txt)."

Problem is, there is no stellar manipulation command to actually create asteroids or is there?

Asteroids are created by destroying a planet.

Thats right, you did mention that before in previous posts. I got all excited because I thought there might be an actual function call to make asteroids.

I sure hope Aaron never adds a function call to create asteroids from nothing... virtually unlimited resources ahoy!

Well, so it violates the law of conservation of energy, minor oversight Smiling What I really want is user defined functions and respective function calls within the game (that auto design button being the only one!!!!).

I would just like the planet creator to combine all asteroids in a sector (up to the planet creator size)... or for lower level planet creators, leave asteroids when creating a smaller planet. Conservation of asteroids! Smiling

My big plan with creating asteroids was to set up a debris field full of ship parts from a big battle (or small) where on could enter and 'mine' resources and scavenge for parts/units/supplies.

But alas, no stellar event that is user defined Sad
