Debris Fields with wrecked ships |

I've been working on the after combat event debris fields where a player could scrounge technology and or resources/supplies. You can go here http://home.spaceempires.net/ftopict-3514.html for a demo shot of my attempt.
After the turn processes it will treat the field as a mineable (such a word?) area where you can recover resources and possibly technology if the visiting empire is below the tech of the destroyed ship(s).

Sweet.
Are you able to have these fields created by combat?
Do 'mining' these fields (for tech salvage) require a mining ship?

Prehaps you can even set it up so it can be appended to other mods?

lol yea, I'm gonna take a guess on that Malfador is just gonna let the community handle the future patches and what not for SEV lol.

Oh, a friend of mine suggested when I showed him the thread was that there should be a way to fire on the wrecks making it less valueable.
Also, that the self-destruct device being present on one of the wrecks would make it harder probability wise to get anything.

I like the idea alot! However, there is one problem that I find. You really don't encourage research anymore, as one side just needs to attack an enemy and send in debris miners, resulting in a win regardless of the battle's outcome.
There needs to be a counteraction against this mining system. Perhaps having the self-destruct device make that particular ship's technology unable to be harvested?

Hmm... actually this gives people an incentive to not use their most advanced tech in battle. Not really bad. Sure you can't get tech points out of your own scrap but you can recycle it.

Update on this idea, its starting to take definite shape: I can now assign ability types to the debris field to allow certain functions to work. Mainly allow discovery of technology.
Haven't worked out the mining portion yet since its based on a storm object. Will most likely have to be a special component that the gets compared to position and debris field values, then award minerals/resources/units? at end of turn.
Still more to play with....
