Next Ship/Next Fleet button Causes slowdown

I'm playing 1.58 w Balance Mod 1.11 and FQM beta 5. I'm playing on a small galaxy and I have about 30 planets and 110 ships. Whenever I press the "next ship" button or the "next fleet" button there's about a 2 1/2 second delay when it finally goes to the next ship/fleet IF the next ship/fleet is in a different system. I'm also seeing the same type of lag whenever any ship (fleet or individual ship) goes through a warp point. This is really annoying, is there anything I can do to optimize this? I've tried lowering the resolution and dropping the graphic quality but I don't think its a graphics issue.

AMD Athlon X2 4600
2 Gig's ram
Lanparty Ultra-D nf4
ATI Radeon 1950XTX
160 gig HD
Windows XP Pro
(Latest drivers for everything)

I don't think it is your computer. I have the same experience. Makes me wish there was a "sleep until next turn" option for ships.
