TCP/IP Multiplay terribly annoying (v1.58)

Submitted by AlexanderK on Fri, 2007-11-09 18:15. Space Empires V Multiplayer

Today, I set up a multiplayer session together with a friend (patch 1.58, TCP/IP on a switched LAN). After struggling for about half an hour with the multiplay setup, everything worked, we played for 2-3 turns and then i got too annoyed to continue:

The way, the host interface implements the progression from one turn to the next is one of the most awkward solutions, i ever encountered.

Sure, it's powerful in the way, that you can intervent who controls which empire between turns, but what really is missing, is a way to have the game progress *automatically* to the next turn without changing anything as soon as all players made their move.

Please, please, some developer review this!

Yes I have posted about this too.

The game needs a simple multiplayer setting that allows 2 or more friends to simply specify the ip address of the host, and then play from turn to turn, just like a game of civ. The host should also not have to run a seperate host, but play like the other players, and have the turn happen transparently without anyone needing to do anytning more than enter the host ip once, and click end turn.

The other powerful settings can be retained for pbem turns etc, but most people just want to get on and play and not have to mess about with manually swapping turn files or running seperate host and client programmes or having to manually trigger a turn update.

I really like the game, and am playing it on pbw now and it is great. I just wish it had an 'instant' mode for times when you want to actually play turn after turn with friends.

you are all wrong, TCP/IP is super good, no 3rd party programs are required, and its the best system ive ever used, not only that but i think you guys have no idea what your speaking of. All praise to SE 5, All praise to SE 5.

/me is good with sarcasm.

yea still not completely fixed and very annoying interface deal. I would almost say its faster just to go and do it all manually.

send the turn to the players, they upload the .plr, then send the new turn out etc etc.

sad. but it works :/ beats trying to get SE 5 to work for 2-3 hours ( i had same problem with tcp/ip) and then getting fed up with the system and just doing something else.

Download Hamachi, its a ip tool that gives you yor own ip network. works on every game i have played. no problems. drop me a line if you want to try.
