Questions about intel and certain components

Submitted by madman22 on Tue, 2007-11-06 20:08. Space Empires V FAQs

Just a few gameplay/strategy questions.

1. I am trying to offset an AI opponents intel attacks, does the higher amount of intel points automatically succeed each time? Also, are there any ways to bolster my intel defense other than increasing overall intel points?

2. Do cloaking/stelth benefits enhance one another? In other words, does it take a higher level of sensor to detect a cloaked ship in an asteroid field than a cloaked ship in open space? Can you combine stealth armor and cloaks to make your ship harder to detect?

3. What are the benefits/detriments of the different weapons? Why use uranium cannons rather than energy pulse or energy stream weapons, etc?

Thanks for the help. BTW, I am currently playing stock, but have also downloaded Unnamed and Balance mods, so address differences if you will.

2. You get the best cloak ability of everything affecting your ship.

3. Differences....Compare range, accuracy, suplies used, ordance used, weight and damage. It comes down to what you are trying to acheive. Scout ships will need to use fewer supplies/ord in their weapons as they are far from home. Slow ships will need longer ranges. Fast ships like fast firing, accurate and long range weapons.

Scout: Add a supply usage weapon (Anti Proton) only with Solar Sails on the ship.
Missle Frigate: 2 X Capital Ship missles with Max weapon Range tactic.
Battle cruiser: Mix Beams with Missles/Torpedos for long range along with heavy hitting close range.

for intel.. the only way i know to defend against intel is to have higher intel points yourself. you can try civics research, there might be one that gives bonus to intel i'm not sure. the other thing is researching specific areas under intelligence (sabotage, espionage... etc)

as far as i know cloaking is not stackable. though i think it should be.
max tachyon sensor will ALWAYS see EVERYTHING!!! (within sensor range of course)

the difference in weapons is your preference. i personally like anti-proton beam cause it reminds me of phasers from star trek. uranium cannon uses ordinance so when you run out you can't fire your guns. the 'energy' weapons only use supply, so as long as your ship has supply you can fire your guns.
the unnamed mod is uses everything stock except upgrades the AI making it more of a challenge (in my opinion this mod is needed for single play)
the balance mod changes alot of stats on weapons and other components
