Not to sound ungrateful...

Submitted by Tilarium on Fri, 2007-11-02 18:32. Space Empires V General

I don't mean to sound ungrateful, this is definitally one of my favorite games. Has MM put out any word on when there's going to me an offical map maker? Ergie's map maker is alright but it has limitations (planets, stars, and astroids aren't labeled like they are in the game made maps and a resent one I noticed, the storms in the nebuli don't have any abilities). I literly sit for hours generating maps in the game because everyone it makes has something that bugs me (systems that have only one system it connects to and crossing warp points... I HATE crossing warp points, connect to the closest system dang it!).

Two other things I'd really like to see... The first one is to beable to save a custom race as AI controlled or not. When you're playing with 16 custom races (Counting yours) it gets tiresome adding each one then editing each one. The other thing I'd really like to see added in is the ability to set which empire starts in which system. I'll find a nice area for me to start in (I look for an area 3 or so systems to act as the 'core' systems for my empire) and then set afew others as starting points just to ensure that another empire starts near mine... Then I'll start the game and won't be in the one I wanted for me and so I leave to start a new game, reload the setup, reload each of the empires, go through and set the other 15 to AI controlled, load the map and set the starting points, and... not start where I want. Eventually after the fifth attempt or so I get fed up and quite trying. LOL Pretty bad huh?

Yes. pretty bad.
I remember reading something about start locations going in order of the empire list. So if you add yourself as the first empire.. the first start location you set should be yours. If your the last empire added in the list then you'll be the 15th or so start location (whatever your position on the list is). i could be wrong about this.
As for the map maker... i think Aaron has other stuff to worry about.
you know you can design your own systems by editing SystemTypes and QuadrantTypes in the data folder.... just make sure you back them up Sticking out tongue

I dislike dead-end systems myself. Too limiting for gameplay, in my opinion.

As for crossing warp points, I don't mind them. I like to think of it as a 3D section of space, squashed in to 2D. Because of that, you would have some crossing warp points.

What I would really like, is a 3D quadrant map. However, that's mostly a cosmetic thing (one thing MOO3 does better, is that its quadrant maps are MUCH easier on the eyes...not as much info from them, but they look much better). Perhaps in SE6, eh?
