Needing tougher computer opponents.

Submitted by madman22 on Sun, 2007-10-28 11:32. Space Empires V General

I am wanting to make tougher computer opponents for my single player game. What game settings will do this? Also, can someone give me some basic mods to create tougher opponents? Please be detailed, as I am not experienced at mods. Mods which will make my computer opponents use all weapon systems (seekers, PD, etc) would be great.

It is my personal view that SE V is not a game straight out of the box. It is a modding toolkit with the vanilla game being mere example.

If you just want a better AI, seek the Unnamed Mod
If you want to try something different, seek the Balance Mod

"Installing" a mod is simply a matter of unzipping the Mod's .zip into the GameTypes/ folder - then it will show up in your New Game choices.

Thanks, is there anywhere that gives more detailed info about what each mod does? Does the Unnamed Mod correct the AI's use of PD and seekers?

Try playing unnamed and give the Ai high bonus and medium to high tech bonus. you'll have your hands full (oh, don't take any tech yourself).

SEV, more than a feeling.

Well, this is highly out-of-date (aside from BM) but: http://wiki.spaceempires.net/index.php/Mods_%28SEV%29

Good mods will have a readme.txt of some sort that describes what it's trying to do. BM certainly has such information in its pack.

If it is so highly out-of-date, why don't you update the list to be more accurate? Smiling

How do you know the list is out-of-date when you are out-of-date, too? ;D

Takes a lot less to spot something's out-of-date than to know how to make it up-to-date. Unnamed's Mod is listed as for v1.38, when it's been adapted for v1.58.

Mind, you do have a point in that my "highly out-of-date" description is inappropriate.

Well, the problem remains... the official unnamed mod is still at 1.05 for SEV 1.35 - and as seen the updated mod has some problems - and there is nobody here on these forums who is likely to update/fix the mod. (Making it work on 1.58 is one thing, but fixing the bugs is another Eye-wink)

Unnamed mod was updated by someone else, not "unnamed". My understanding is that it was just updated so that it works with 1.58, nothing else.

SEV, more than a feeling.
